I'm planning on seeing it with my son.
The 'original' is not the David Lynch, there have been other efforts made but all have failed in one way or another, although some of the steampunk visuals in the Lynch version were pretty good.
The book is well worth reading if you want to see it fully equipped with the complex story.

Has anybody seen it yet, will it be worth watching it,never seen the original I saw the trailers at the cinema when we went to see "No Time To Die", the Dune trailers looked super, can't what to see it when it comes to our local cinema, which is nice and airy and reasonably good from the Covid safety point of view.

Have booked to see it in Bristol next Friday with my son.
We are both Blade Runner 2049 fans and, in my view, Denis Villeneuve is the next Ridley Scott and can do no wrong. As for Dune, it's simply the best SF novel ever written.

I think I'll try and make a not too crowded daytime screening at the IMAX once it has been out a while.

Better than expected pacing was slow and should of trimmed 45mins from the running time or released the whole fecking film in one part

What an absolute feast, both visually and in following the 1965 book's story quite faithfully. The pacing is perfect, the characters could hardly have been better cast and the visuals are Denis Villeneuve standard, i.e. stunning. It's all pastel colours which I anticipated for the film set largely on Arrakis. Having first read Dune when I was 12, I've waited a long time for this. It is everything I wanted from a film realisation of the wonderful story. Hans Zimmer's soundtrack is very fitting, too. Do not wait for it to come to TV, you need to see this in the cinema. Epic is an appropriate word for it.
My son and I walked out feeling that two years for Part 2 are going to feel like a very long wait, but the anticipation is already strong.
It's official: after Arrival, Blade Runner 2049 and now Dune, Villeneuve is the new SF master film maker.

So you thought it’s better than the 1984 version with that megastar Sting in it and the music preformed by Toto.lol,I think I will have to give it another airing because I kept falling asleep during the first sitting,I wonder when Dune 2 is released. Cheers A

So you thought it’s better than the 1984 version with that megastar Sting in it and the music preformed by Toto.lol,I think I will have to give it another airing because I kept falling asleep during the first sitting,I wonder when Dune 2 is released. I don't dislike the David Lynch effort and did rather like the steampunk visuals. The soundtrack was good, too. However, it was flawed in several regards, chiefly that they ran out of funds and rushed the ending, making it meaningless to non-readers of the book. Various things didn't gel like the ornithopters not looking as described, with flapping wings (superbly realised by Villeneuve), and some of the casting jarred a little. The battle at the end between Fremen and Harkonnen was a mess and the special effects substandard due, again, to funding. Lynch has since disowned it. Yes, the Villeneuve is in a different class. Sweeping vistas, incredible sense of scale (the way their ships dwarfed humans). Beautiful shots of key characters - not only was Timothee Chalamet perfect for the lead role as Paul Atreides Muad'dib, but Zendaya was stunning as Chani. Hans Zimmer's soundtrack accompanied it well and surged in the climactically relevant scenes. Not as memorable, but great emotional accompaniment. Have you seen Blade Runner 2049? That's another superb realisation and a fitting successor to the stand-out Ridley Scott original.

What can I say, BR 2049 was excellent in 3D. There are certain movies that the effect genuinely enhances, and it's definitely one of those.

No, you may not Seriously, my son and I were debating which would be the film of the decade, BR 2049 or Dune. It's a very close run thing. The way BR 2049 sewed into the fabric of the original and answered some, but not all, of the questions was very satisfying. The vistas of the decaying Las Vegas, the big reveal under the tree, the whole feel and colouring of the film, the love story with Joi and how she was stamped out of existence, how could you want more? Not to mention the subtle reference to the Alien universe. Watch for the clues.
