The amp, being British, goes up to 12. None of that decimalised bollox for this kiddy.

Hi Paul, life's a bitch sometimes, but there is always something good to do and look forward to. Since March 2015 I've spent the past 5-6 years going through various amounts of heart crap, starting with an unexpected heart attack, five angioplasty's, three for stents (two fitted each time), only to be told in Jan 2019 after a load of tests and scans that I needed a triple bypass and they should have done that in the first place, so that is what they did. A year further on and Covid hit, so I was very lucky if I had not been sorted before I probably would either not be here or be pretty unwell by now, although I still get angina and breathless, and wake up most nights due to it. I sometimes get down and think why me, but hey I am still here and kicking, I still have my lovely Sue to chastise me and some great friends, I can go for easy walks, sometimes shorter than I planned, I love fiddling with the Hifi and listening to it, I enjoy a nice meal and a glass of wine, I have survived a dose of covid and think myself lucky. Unfortunately getting older things start to fail, more for some than others, just depends on our genes and how we have looked after ourselves over the years. My issues are a combination of self abuse and genetics so I am partially to blame, but Heart Disease would have caught up with me at some point. As Brian said "Always Look On the Bright Side of Life" , hope your feeling better soon. All the Best Adrian

Cheers, Adrian. As I was saying to someone yesterday, I've always been about 35-years-old inside my head, but in the past 12 months I feel like I've aged 30+ years.

Looking on the bright side competition entrant I had various knee, back and other problems in my 20s. Late 20s had my first migraine, nothing compared to what some suffer but it knocked me sideways. More followed. Always suffering from colds
As I'm allergic to pain and especially death I started my life's work on sorting it as best I could.
Glad to say it works I'm close to the most regulated, verging on OCD punter you know but feeling good most of the time thanks to the warnings I had in my 20s

It all started when I was about 45... Umm, maybe not, this is an 'unexpected amp' thread

Paul, I thought you were all about the music not the gear ? There seems to be an endless stream of equipment winging it's way to your door. Enjoy it, although I suspect you are a secret box swapper. Hang on, how can it be secret when you freely admit to your purchases.
Pass me the sherry........

Hang on, how can it be secret when you freely admit to your purchases. Pass me the sherry........ True, Stu (I'm a poet, and I know it) but I'm all about the bargains too. Getting the Arcam amp for £525.00 when Richer are flogging them for £735.00 was just too good a price to ignore. Normally I wouldn't buy anything else for a while after laying out that much - poor old pensioner that I am - but having already decided to match the amp with a transport at some stage it seemed stupid not to take advantage of the Nectar points offer on eBay. The thing is, when the world is a bit saner I can flog my Vincent DAC, my ChiFi DAC, and the Primare amp & CD player, and come out in profit. I am all about the music, but I always add the caveat that I want to get as good a sound as I can within my budget.

It is hard to resist a bargain. Earlier in the week couldn't resist an old Acoustic Research XA turntable with knackered motor for £20. When one's health is in question, however, hi-fi's importance takes on a different perspective. Wouldn't like to say how long my "system" has been on the "back burner".
Anyway, hope it's not too long for the health issues to recede and you can annoy the neighbours with the feats of loudness from that unexpected amp.

The transport has arrived, bang on time. All the ad said was " Used," and " All working - remote included." What it neglected to mention was that it would arrive in the original packing, right down to the wrap around the remote, and the nice Cambridge black bag that nobody knows what to do with after they've unpacked whatever it is that they've just bought. Plus there's not a single mark on it. It might as well have been new looks-wise. For what worked out to be les than £200.00 I've scored another bargain. Well, as long as it does actually work, obviously.

One of those purchases where you rub your hands together and justify it with "It was a bargain!"

The transport has arrived, bang on time. Now you'll need some CDs. You do have CDs, don't you?
