Important items
How do you keep yours in good condition ?
The last advice I had from the practice nurse was to allow water in to my ears by tipping my head to clear when I shower Olive oil maybe once a month or when I think needed
That may have worked up until recently.
If blocked go and see the practise nurse and she shoves a massive water jet in your ear and flushes out, all being well.
That stopped and private only clinics were the only place to go for new fangled micro suction.
Has now changed again, for me and I see the nurse next week for an inspection and a micro suction 3 weeks (!) after shoving olive oil in my ear
Except from what I Google olive oil is proven not to work. I'll do it anyway

Currently I have a blocked left ear.
It is a bad feeling and not recommended
Listening to music way down on detail and enjoyment

Just get microsuction at a private practice Mike.
No olive oil required beforehand.
I've had problems with wax build-up since young but thankfully microsuction is the least invasive method. Ear syringing used to be quite unpleasant for heavy build-up.

Olive oil works for me, if a little messy.

Otex Express ear drops.

My Googling said Olive Oil doesn't work and I think Otex is olive oil spray. Odd as the majority of advice is to use olive oil
One of the reasons I started the thread
With olive oil I've gone from - think I have a problem to a mostly gummed up, sealed ear which seems inflamed internally

Otex do a range of ear drops, only one of which is Olive Oil based. I was advised not to use Otex many years ago but can't remember why.
If you have heavily compacted wax and can't hear you just need to go to an Audiologist and get microsuction. Quick and easy. Of course if you have an infection and not just some inflammation due to impacting, that may need treating separately.
Personally I hate losing hearing in one ear with wax, so I'd be going to get them done pronto.

If wax is heavily impacted, olive oil will soften it but won't remove it.
As I said, it's completely unnecessary before microsuction - you could get it done tomorrow.

That's what I thought about microsuction I shall be asking the nurse more detail when I go. The private place down the road had some odd feedback that didn't read well

I went and got me ears microsucked earlier this year. Never had my ears cleaned before.
I was a little disappointed that they were relatively clean.

Seems you are either troubled by wax build up or not with probably inbetweeners. Do you do anything to keep them clean, like letting water in when showering ?

Isopropyl alcohol for lugs will make the sound sweeter.lol.

The next closest is the same chain. I've already been olive oiling for, shall we say 3 weeks Online again I see one saying no need for olive oil, another saying it could be useful. Hardly mandatory I spoke to the receptionist. When I go, speaking to the nurse, who I may know, could be different

I've never oiled before microsuction on advice of the audiologist. If you have very heavy build up some places recommend using it a day or two before, but as you say it's not mandatory. It's possible nurses *might* recommend it because they were so used to syringing ears before which oiling was essential, but really if using microsuction you would hope they were up to date. You've got more patience than me - by the time you get them done you will have spent 6 weeks waiting for no reason.

Nowhere near 6 weeks. I wouldn't wait that long either A couple of weeks back I thought I needed to put oil in so started. Twas fine for a few days then I lost hearing. I've been oiling for a couple of weeks at a guess Nigh on 3 weeks by the time I see the nurse

It was supposed to be a very effective mod, getting my ears cleaned.
Don't do anything in particular Mike. Sometimes water in the ears when washing I guess.

I'm guessing the recommended olive oil caused my left ear to block and gunk up completely. Have had a few painful days resulting in me taking antibiotics from Saturday and a visit to the doc today.
Have a spray to apply 3 times a day to sort out the problem and rebooked a microsuction
Looking for an alternative to olive oil in the ears

I have a new found, huge respect for ears and what the brain does.
One ear completely blocked is far more than a 50% loss. More like two thirds or even three quarters of your hearing sense. The boss has said this due to losing hearing in one ear many years ago. I couldn't comprehend it until now. You don't know where a sound is coming from. Difficult to believe, but I experienced it so now I know. Listening to a stereo system loses far more information than I would have expected.
