I treat with contempt anyone who can't deal with metric measurements these days! Of course, it's a losing battle in the US with their bloody Fahrenheit, Feet and Pounds. Perhaps they need to lose another space probe or two before they see sense.

Perhaps they need to lose another space probe or two before they see sense. I can sort of deal with metric measurements; eg I know how warm it's going to be based on a Centigrade temperature, but for weights and measures I generally have to do a mental conversion to get an idea of how big and/or heavy something is (eg a kilo is just over two pounds, an inch is just over two centimetres). For liquid measures though it has to be pints and gallons or I'm at a loss.

I moved over, but still have inches and feet stuck in my head. Being in print I know the A sizes very well and can visualise them, but if I had to visualise say 300mm I would have to pause
Temperatures seem to be whatever sounds more impressive F in the summer C in the winter
I'm a bit better with weights, but everyone ought to convert so we're on the same page. Doubt the US ever will

We'll get there. The stupidest measure is stones, especially when quoted by a young person where they have obviously been taught by an older person who should know better. I have no problem visualising kg. When I'm asked for my weight in hospital the nurses always react with surprise when I give it in kg, as if it's some sort of accomplishment.

Stones seem to be peculiar to Britain.
