What is this new fangled phono stage Clive?
I'm sure some analog die-hards would think it the work of the devil! LoL.

What is this new fangled phono stage Clive? I'm sure some analog die-hards would think it the work of the devil! LoL. :-) It's the Parks Audio Puffin. It's feeds my Gustard A22 or Lindeman streamer (I swap them around). The phono stage ok when it outputs analogue but it's very good indeed outputting digital into a good DAC. It even reduces clicks and pops. But...it's simply sounds better than all my other analogue phono stages. The Puffin is also very tweakable - lots of settings to tailor the sound. It may seem sacrilege for a vinyl nerd to use a digital (dsp) phono stage but it's a great solution. parksaudiollc.com/

I think that's pretty cool actually Clive - if I ever get my vinyl rig up and running again I would get one!

I should add that my phono stage is digital! Brilliant! Safely encompassing all technologies

I wonder how much of the enduring appeal of vinyl is that embedded in it is the sound of our youth, that we cling onto in some way with it. This nostalgic urge can override any shortcomings it might have as a playback medium in this day and age. I think subconsciously that might have been something I couldn't recognise at the time. I must dig out my little transistor radio, with the 1 1/ 2" speaker and dial up some sixties hits on pirate radio (probably the most iconic musical age for me, although not the best, musically speaking) to test that theory, Jules. Ah, the days when telling people you spent the night in bed with your tranny didn't attract strange looks, eh?

For me the equivalent memory would be listening to The Friday Rock Show in bed, on Radio 1 MW via my Sanyo mono cassette radio back in the 80's - Tommy Vance - what a legend ... 'TV on the Radio'. There is something good about a crappy radio on MW!

There is something good about a crappy radio on MW! 199m It's Caroline. 208m Radio Luxembourg 266m Wonderful Radio London I had the opportunity, one drunken evening in a hotel bar, to listen to some tapes made by a pirate DJ of the time and who now owned said hotel. What we thought was wonderful was, in truth, actually pretty awful. It was amateurish, rather less "hilarious" than we remembered, and we only seemed to remember the " good" tunes they played, as opposed to the likes of Vince Hill, Englthing Dumpertruck, Anita Harris, and Des O'Connor, all of whom had been very quickly glossed over in our memories. But, those were the days when the sun shone every day of the school summer hols. I know. Cos I remember it so well.
