Going direct from the DAC has made me completely forget about preamps!

I have seen 1 or 2 x26pro owners on other forums saying their x26pro sounded better with a pre amp. Dulled the sound to their tastes, possibly?

Dulled the sound to their tastes, possibly? nah, with x26p XLR output and 7dB pre-amp unity gain boost for total 9 volt into my amplifier the combination can’t be beat for its dynamics and punch. RCA 2.5 volt out to amplifier .. pfft

I am using XLR outputs to my mono-blocks (to tweeters) and RCA to my Topping PA5 (for bass). Thanks for the info. on the heat dissipation. To maximise its life, it seems that it would benefit from not being left on when not in use.

In case I'd missed a trick, I performed another comparison of the three Gustard provided digital filters. They are subtle in difference, and just to remind you of how their misleading naming translates into the filter type:
- Vivid: linear phase - Gentle: minimum phase - Composite: hybrid of the above
Once again I found minimum phase (Gentle) to give a little more note decay deep into the black background. If you want the absolute best soundstaging from the X26 Pro (or any of the other models using the Gustard, not ESS, filters) then set it to Gentle.
And never talk to me about R2R DACs again!
