Thought it was the same content. ? They were completely different productions with different cast. <looks up> Unaware of the 2018 remake until now I saw the original, in episodes on the telly man years ago

The film I know is a heavily edited version of a much longer TV drama. Never seen a production with a different cast!

Ah yes, the confusion is that the original 1981 'production' was too long for a standard film so was edited down. It starred Jurgen Prochnow and was utterly superb.
The more recent 2018 TV series starred Tom Wlaschiha and was average and downright annoying in places as everything was over-acted for effect.

I didn't know there was a remake, what a madness - talk about being on a hiding to nothing. The original is just perfection.

I could easily name 50 top TV dramas and getting them down to 5 was hard. But that was the challenge!

And no one has mentioned Killing Eve yet! The only reason it is not on my list is 'cos I forgot!

Yes, that one too. I kicked myself for forgetting Game of Thrones, but I'm still comfortable with my 5.
I could have chosen The Leftovers, Glitch, Halt and Catch Fire, Normal People. But I'll stick to my 5. Until next week.

Any chance of a blurb here even a TLDR on The Leftovers?

The Leftovers: something happens and a lot of people suddenly disappear. There is no pattern to who disappeared or why. It's the story of those left behind and how they cope (or not). The series uses imagery and music (by Max Richter) to very powerful effect. There are moments of intense beauty and horror throughout. Memorable.
Here's a scene to whet your appetite, disconnected from the main story arc.
