Maybe the balanced mains unit or the that special power amp you got that created pure music on Steve system OK mate, will do.

We had a great session The DDAC beat the Caiman James uses a two board DAC it added a bit more warmth and detail in the treble, difference was not huge but certainly the better DAC. Then we added James TQ power amp and his croft pre. This just made his based system sound The sound was now totally non fatigue and the speakers performing at a level they have no right to. For me it was a demonstration just how differences amplifiers make compared to the DAC. When James left we tried the Mini 1 in his system but it lacked dynamics due to the sensitivity of his drivers I saw Tony's speakers and they are coming on the finish is very good indeed Steve has been doing a similar experimentation with cones and support creating a special support panel that helped with the sound of his amp and my DAC

Yes it was a good afternoon. I was going to write something about the event last night but it took four hours to get back home ! The roads were totally grid locked, I have no idea why. Anyway it was good to see John and Steve and my friend Lee fitted right in. Last time we met the differences between Steve's and Johns DAC was quite noticeable, but this time the differences were not anyway near so obvious. Steve had made a three inch very high quality platform and the DAC was also sitting on RDC cones. When John plugged in his DAC the differences were there to hear but not as obvious as last time. I appreciated the better tonal accuracy and the taming of the slightly lively top end and more punchy bass. We then plugged in my DDDAC which gave more weight , oomph and scale. The difference was there to hear but not huge, to be honest this surprised me as we were all expecting to hear bigger differences, however I was sitting at the side of the room and my head is a bit full of cold. Once we established the differences between the three DACS we thought it would be fun to get more of the 'a Sovereign' sound. I had brought my new balanced power supply but after I saw Steve's consumer unit I decided not to. My BPS has no inrush circuit on it and if I had installed it into his house mains his consumer unit would have represented fireworks night. However we installed my amps into Steve's hifi, sat back and enjoyed the music. For me it really showed off what Steve's speakers could do, I hoped he didn't mind but I really pushed his speakers. The bass was very tight and very very deep. My friend couldn't believe how open, fast and punchy these four inch drivers are. I made the comment that Steve's drivers are the same size as my tweeters. I said this not out of a lack of respect but more out of shear astonishment of what these speakers can do. I think Lee being and engineer was fascinated by them and hung around for a long time afterwards when I was keen to get out the door as he really wanted to get his head around how these speakers worked and how on earth they perform as they do. I don't mean to bang on about it but if my hifi was in my house, as opposed to being in a detached building, and my speakers had to look good, as opposed to looking like kitchen work tops with drivers in them, then these would be the speakers for me. Look good and sound stupidly good. It was a great afternoon, even though Steve's dog couldn't control his rear end. We will have to do it again soon, maybe at Sovereign Towers next time so I don't have to endure the traffic.

Yes that sounds good James and get to hear your Open Baffles Might be good when you do upgrades to them I tend to agree around the wife friendly speakers with great sound I think their limits to the bass but it is just physics finally catching up with the drivers. More than enough bass to sataisfy most people

Steves speakers seem to respond well to top notch kit, this was echoed in the hi fi pig review. I have a selection of amps that intend to play with to see whats what. My set up is rather modest component wise but produces a very enjoyable noise to my ears in my room- Im really looking forward to getting them home and putting some hours on them.

I have a pair of Steve's wonderful speakers - pound for pound I really dont think you can beat them and their beauty aswell as ability to have your choice in finishes is just an added bonus. Like the more experienced reviewers above ( I speak very much as a layman ) it is difficult to believe how much sound, bass, depth and pure enjoyment can come from such a small driver. Steve is an absolute gent who takes his time and is so enthusiastic and keen to help with even the most basic questions --- and at no time does it feel like it is false and only to secure a sale ..... i think he knows that if you take the time to audition the speakers you will want to buy them. I've had a change in circumstances ( for which read I've got no money !) and it is perhaps noteworthy that needing to raise cash I have sold my AN Meishu and Wadia DAC but have been unable to part with the speakers! Current set up is as follows Battleship Sony XA33ES Cd player ( bought for £100!) as a transport Musical Fidelity M1 ( 2nd version ) DAC --- a great piece of kit at the price in my opinion ( £250+ second hand ?) Living Zen 1TB streamer -- again very happy with this ( £250 ish used ?) Musical Fidelity XA2 integrated --- classic amp for no money ( £350 ish ?) Cables are Van den Hul mostly ---- another bargain I believe is VdH CS 122 Hybrid ( £17 a metre )
The speakers sound superb with this modest set up --- in region of £1,000 ! ---- but as the reviewers above conclude I can well believe they will grow in stature as the sources improve ----- until I have significantly more funds ( should that ever happen!) I cannot see me making significant changes to this set up , and if I do it will be the speakers that remain I suspect ....... I can try to post photos of speakers if wanted ..... I had mine finished in a glorious deep grey with black fronts and drivers --- the upgraded driver is worth the small additional cost ----- in answer to earlier question I have mine toed in slightly and about 10cm from back wall so they arenot intrusive and have looks that are always complimented but it is the sound that draws the greatest praise. Suffice to say I like them !! ...... and it is so nice to deal with someone who cares so much about his work, he deserves to succeed.

My speaker arrived today, boy oh boy am I happy. Steve had kept me updated along the way but the four weeks was well worth the wait. I will start a fresh thread and have a go at getting some photos.
