I live close to a small industrial estate that many outlets run machinery. It has been my belief that this has a impact on my sound quality and so far whilst treating mains has improved sound quality it has not eliminated the issue. Basically the sound gets worse during the day apart from weekends when the units are closed. If I remove cables for a few seconds the issue goes away when I reconnect.
I have a separate supply coming into the mains and the house was rewired about 8 years ago I use JPS cables coming from a separate Consumer unit. In the past I have had a balanced mains unit from MAD Audio and a PS Audio P500 but neither got rid of the issue.
I been speaking to Tony at Coherent I already done the usual things too solve the issue. I asked him if I could borrow the End Earth box he has just put out. He warned me that it might help but also might not solve my issue.
The END basically removes noise on the earth ring mains I no idea how it does this but it drastically reduces the noise floor. So much so was my bass became blotted and I had to lower the crossover by 10hz to compensate. More depth and I cannot find a better word but naturalness to the sound. It does take time for the unit to perform kind of like a valve amp where I find that the first 20 minutes is almost unlistenable as the mids are distorted and this impacts on other aspects such as treble bass and depth. Then it quickly starts to change. I think this is due to that it is clearing up the dirt on my earth and it takes time to stabilise. So it kind of working but not quite as I hoped I still have a few more experiments to make.
I need to say when performing the sound is awesome as Martin so well describes in his blog music can just explode and sound comes from the blackness of space and time. It just due to the factory issues it takes a good bit of time to show what it is capable off.
Perhaps a more modern regenerator would have a better affect perhaps a Balanced mains transformer with a DC blocker but until in the system and experienced their is no way of knowing and I am tired of chasing money to solve this.
