Tried our router all over the house The current place covers the house well. Except iPads and iPhones (I'm not sniggering)

The last couple of days have seen no mobile broadband (and, therefore, no music) for me. This was due to a major BT outage involving all of the Basingstoke (RG22-RG25) area. Since my BT is provided by EE, I assume it was the same for EE users.
Meanwhile, our main house Three service carried on as normal. I might need to think about switching the music room to Three if it happens again, but this is a rare occurrence (and Three have also had their outages).

For over a year now all our music, radio and TV comes down the fibre / copper of broadband. We don't even have a TV aerial!
The services on offer and no faff with digi boxes etc surpass terrestrial TV imo.
There has been no outage, apart from the switch over of ISP a couple of months ago, and that was done at 3am and took a few minutes to configure the change next morning. The music room router was up same day.
As a backup; TV wise, we have a few series on HDD and a few DVDs we could happily revisit.
Music wise I still have vinyl and a CDP in the loft that can be configured and operational in a few minutes.
Radio wise we have a Bose wave thing and a couple of DAB radios stored in the loft. They can't provide Swedish radio though!
These are worst case, > an hour or two outage scenarios..
Broadband used to be a flakey service but the business case / requirement placed upon it by TV streaming services (big business with clout) has seen a marked improvement in real world speeds and reliability.

One of the reasons I hesitate to embrace streaming is the loss of the interweb It's not a real problem as all I need to do is get my arse in gear and get another SIM to use (e.g. a Three one) in the TP-Link router. That way I have a failover. These occurrences are exceedingly rare, however. I could as easily ask "what would you do when the laser fails in your CD player?" as they inevitably do.

The broadband question we may all have to answer
Directional or Omni Directional antenna ?
Problems with my broadband connection continue
I read the blurb on Directional or Omni Directional and decided a directional antenna was what I needed to improve my broadband. Not entirely clear cut. The decider was "if your broadband is already good, go omni" Next door have directional and recommended
Cranleigh Aerials came back and moved the Poynting around from the position that varied from nothing to average at best Started at around 5Mbps down and ended up with a max of 30Mbps, 180' from the start position That was great, for about half an hour. Now I'm back to 4Mbps
Would a Poynting Omni Directional work better ? Our man Dave said that mobile routers hunt around for a broadband signal all the time so maybe Omni might work better than directional
Alternatively what other suggestions ?
Please let this story end successfully soon

I think I have been throttled
- or tell me what you think
My next door neighbour has Three mobile broadband and has up to 60Mbps download I signed up with Three some months later but never equalled what he has. Ranges from no connection to an average of 15Mbps with the odd peak of 30
Not perfect so I went to the Three shop in Woking as they could offer an upgrade
The new router, it's replacement and a TP Link router I bought recently have not been as good as the old router Often no connection, usual average around 2Mbps
Adding rabbit ear antenna, an external Poynting makes almost no difference
The only thing left is the SIM and the number
or what else ?

Take the router plus SIM to the shop to prove what its maximum performance is?

Take the router plus SIM to the shop to prove what its maximum performance is? Going to the shop in Woking unlikely to be any use and the last resort but you give me an idea If I talk nicely to next door I could try my 2 different routers on his (same as mine) Poynting aerial Whatever the results I need to think how to get Three to be anything better than obstructive and useless. Hang on.. When you last visited we plugged in your router and it was as bad as mine, before the external aerial and rabbit ears though - which may disprove the throttled theory, although my old and new routers still give either mediocre or rubbish respectively. Wonder how Offcom would deal with this ? And if I 'win' do Three become even worse or just cancel both contracts ? Three are like a lot of companies, fine if you have no problems or easily fixable ones but horrific when anything out of the ordinary happens, especially when the Three shops are at war with Three online Another alternative in the 'throw more money at the problem' is to get an Omni directional aerial which may work better than the directional one

4G routers are not all created equally, and in general you gets what you pays for. I've had my fair share of woes this year with customer's piece of shit 4G routers not being fit for the task in hand, and that's doing something as commonplace as handling VoIP phones.
Have a chat with your neighbour, and see if he'll let you try your routers on his aerial. If you still get shitty results, take note of the first line of this post.

Try the TP-Link router next door if you can, mine is much better than the Huawei I used to have

Latest from Three
A bill double normal All paperwork to hand, go through many different gateways to eventually get to an Indian lady
Who assures me
"This is a mistake, please ignore"
Next Only been using the old router, pretty good results plugged into an external aerial 17Mbps down
Plugged in the new router for the first time in weeks out of interest. Sitting in front of the french doors, no aerial 16Mbps. Usually a maximum of 3
The wind must have changed direction No sense to this
Prior to that I tried the new contract SIM in the old contract router Doesn't work. 4G+ not happy with a 4G router ?

My Sky Broadband deal runs out in September. They have offered a miserable renewal deal so am now looking at Three 5G home broadband. It would be much cheaper, with potential more than double current speeds. And by having the new router in the living room I could feed my streamer from it. Will have to see if the Mrs can manage without a landline, which I never use.

Try Three on trial If remotely hesitant send it back
Whatever you do don't mix a shop and online as they push the problem to each other

Absolutely. It's available on monthly as well as contract so will test speed and reliability first.
