You don't have these hassles with a mesh setup. We have 5 BT Wholehome discs with a single SSID and the handover as you roam is seamless. You can also 'steer' certain devices towards 5GHz if you wish. I used to constantly mess with different routers and extenders as you are doing. The hassle-free nature of mesh is excellent and they do some clever stuff in the background by 'backhauling' streams using different routes around the mesh to optimise delivery to where you want it. Yeah, your system is ££s BT. My system £19 a month and no additional HW costs. Works well now, even out in the distant orangery/green house. I only do a bit of casual browsing there, although Marie does upload Instagram cottage pics often! Our Sonos is set up on its own mesh network with 9 devices. Stable as a rock.

I bought all the discs in a bundle deal and they work with any provider (initially BT, then Plusnet, now Three), so no rental costs.

The sightly older Talktalk router is definitely better range wise over the EEv one!
I made some changes to the position of wi-fi extender. The Slave router still has to signal to it though a house wall, but Instead of going through multiple rafter thicknesses of wood at a shallow angle, it now goes through 2 uninsulated brick walls to see the Slave router.
The result is higher down and upload speeds. Can get up to 12 Meg down and 8 up, in the greenhouse/orangery now. That's about 45m away.
Marie has no problem video calling her mum, or uploading Instagram pics🙂

I can see how slave routers would work. Crossed my mind for here Not confident to try it myself and very glad I don't need to

Crossed my mind for here Not confident to try it myself and very glad I don't need to It's not that difficult and your can't stuff anything, you just re-set to original if it's not right, doesn't work, or stops responding. You can only do slave/master via a lan cable. You get full speed on the slave too. Wi-fi repeaters are Over The Air, but don't give full speed.

That could be good as I have a patch panel I could connect to

I just completed installing my 200MB (sic) Virgin router. It works at least. Further setups around the house still need to be done. I understand that it has both 2.4G and 5G channels. I use the 5G with my business laptop but on the old router it was either or. The new hub supposed to be able to handle both at the same time. We'll see.

my 200MB (sic) Virgin router. LOL, yes that would be faster than my work 1Gbps dedicated leased line.

Hardly seems believable
I'll take more (please) but peaking at 30Mbps here

I'll take more (please) but peaking at 30Mbps here 30Mbps is good for you compared with before? When you have upwards of 1,300 people and 1,600 devices all using the same internet connection, sharing everything from browsing to updates and video streaming, you need a 1Gbps leased line to keep it all running smoothly.

Before Three mobile we had 15 on a good day. That was all we were going to get with a BT line 920 sounds like the far future to me

Getting this from Three right now. Not bad for the sticks.

Getting this from Three right now. Not bad for the sticks. Yes nice, with current usage it takes data speed out of concern. Once you get a reliable fast connection stuff just works. Latency could be a bit lower for avid gamers, although it's quoted as good enough 20-40ms.

I don't game and I rarely get a glitch on streaming, which is the most important parameter for me. Also clean Teams calls and VPN connection for work.
It's more reliable now than the 14Mbps land-based broadband was, that I wasn't allowed to report unless it went under 9Mbps (such is the weasel 'performance guarantee').

31Mbps here which I'm happy with. Wifi and around 40 feet away through a solid wall May move the router closer as the boss doesn't do Zoom art lessons now in the far end of the house

I moved the house router to high up under the stairs - central to the house. Gives even coverage upstairs and down.
