Just a browser!
Find out what IP address the router uses. It should be on the label at the back, together with the password. Browse to it and login. Go to router status or an equivalent page. It should give you that data.

As a matter of interest, I compared the two mobile data services we use:
Main house: Huawei router on Three: anything from 60-100Mbps, reliable Music room: TP-Link router on BT (EE): around 30Mpbs, very reliable
Both on different masts so I guess we're lucky.
The Plusnet landline barely musters 15Mbps and will be no more when the contract ends.

Ahahaha. Thanks
15Mbps was my best with Plusnet too. About all you can get down a country lane Next door got 18

Logged into ZTE router
Wi-Fi Coverage Long Wi-Fi Coverage (?) Signal Strength -97dBm
Do I want Statistics ? Takes me to Data Management and wants info I don't know.
Clear Date * 1 Data Type Data Time 547:49:23 Used 00:00:00 of remaining When reached 0%, 00:00:00 to remind me - put in 50% 0 Hour(s) Time Plan put in 50 hours
No idea what that does

Ouch - that's poor and could explain the variable results. It's just about hanging on grimly to any signal at all. Now that you can see signal strength (although it would have been useful to see SINR too), you can try better placements if possible. Try all the upstairs windows. WAIT - is that in fact the mobile data signal strength? Why does it mention wi-fi?

Under - Status Information: SIM card number 1234etc IMEI 1234etc IMSI 1234etc Wi-Fi Coverage Long Wi-Fi Coverage Signal Strength -98dBM (today, and connection is horrid)
Ah Advanced Settings Option for Wifi coverage: Short, Medium or Long Wifi awake settings : Enable or Disable (ticked) Update settings : Checked, up to date
Looked all over, still no SINR

I keep seeing ZTE router being mentioned. Which model is it, and does it have any external aerials?

ZTE MF286D
Bingfu aerials currently in use giving a small performance increase

My Huawei needs a setting changed for using external aerials. Did you check yours?
Still don't know what that signal strength is. I'll assume 4G, and it's very poor.
Not interested in the wi-fi stats, you have more important problems to fix first. You've got to find a better location.

From what I found the ZTE didn't need a setting change
4G from the blue light on the panel
Moved back to South window, the 'good' one Oh dear -96
Speedtest 26Mbps How does that happen ?

The carrier band is analogue, and subject to all kinds of interference. Poor pickup of the carrier band will give slower data speeds.
The 4G service itself has only so much bandwidth, and if there's something occurring locally to you, such a traffic jam after an accident, or a bunch of silly buggers climate protesters gluing themselves to the road surface on a busy nearby motorway slip road, it won't matter if you have the strongest carrier band, because the mast will be swamped with users. and all users in the vicinity will have decreased data transfer rates.

Based on those readings, Mike, the Three mast is too far from you or obscured. Have you tried any other service providers? Who is your phone with?

Not perfect but it gives as what we need. Could do with more if I can get it
My phone is with Three. The boss is has an Apple and Sky I think
Next door had 20 or 30Mbps and up to 60 odd with an aerial. We both point at the same mast to the South and not that different

For completeness I tried the router outside. More or less the same Up a high step ladder More or less the same
Checked figure for Bingfu aerial Same in or out Can't find a setting on the ZTE to select aerial so assume automatic

I figured as much and you've confirmed it. Your problem is distance to the nearest Three mast.

Going next door soon to see how my neighbour is getting 60Mbps Three broadband, Huawei router, Poynting directional aerial As this is through trees I would think directional is not what you want His angle to the mast must must be almost the same as mine

An external professionally installed Poynting aerial would give you a much better chance of pulling enough signal for reliable throughout.
