Secret Sky comprises the 3 main support musicians for the now retired Canadian celtic/folk superstar Loreena McKennitt. Caroline Lavelle; cello and vocal. A well established recording artiste with several of her own albums released. She has a low and rich voice, remarkably cello like! Brian Hughes; give him a guitar-like instrument of any kind and his musicianship and artistry never ceases to please me. Hugh Marsh; electric violin and a jazz violinist by profession. His 2019 album Violinvocations might best be described as weird experimental! Secret Sky's first and only album so far is self named.
The album follows on in the same kind of McKennitt-ish style of melodic folk rock. Not for everyone, I know, but I love it.
There's not a bad track here, imo, I find it an easy and engrossing listen, and a few tracks take me to Goosebump Central.

Never heard of them, Jerry, which is unusual.
I like some of Loreena McKennitt's work so I look forward to trying this out.

I like the music it takes you on a journey but would definitely prefer this if it had no vocals

Not for me I'm afraid. I found the production rather oppressive despite the fine musicianship and standard of recording. The few tracks that picked up the pace as it were were too 'held back' for my taste. However, it was Caroline Lavelle's voice that I found the most difficult element and didn't like her pitch and pacing or the slightly 'nasal' tone. I probably didn't suffer so I'll give it a generous 2. Sorry, Jerry.

It's not on Qobuz so I'll find the time to switch over to Spotify Connect and try it out.

I played this today. It was OK. Nothing that would have me running for the hills. There were a couple of interesting guitar-led interludes that made me sit up and listen a little closer, but I think one play is enough for me. I can see why it might be a must have album for some people, but that's not a club that I am a member of, I'm afraid. I gave it a score of two.

I'm a bit scared off by the mention of Celtic and folk but will do my best ...

Oh dear. Looks like I'm on my own in this one. Sorry to have wasted your time, folks. Wrong audience, I think!

Jerry you not wasting peoples time. Music is so personal I imagine Martin might enjoy this and you did introduce me to a artist I never heard off before. I usually get very mixed reactions to my selections

As I enjoy Loreena's work it's not surprising I enjoy Secret Sky. I've had the album since it came out, I think I bought a download. I gave it 3, though 3.5 would be more representative. It's not an an album I play often but I don't ignore it either. Is this damning with faint praise? I don't mean it to be.

I don't feel as though my time was wasted at all, Jerry. Just because I didn't love the music, it doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the process of listening to, and learning about something new to me. I value this process, and it's better than any other way of discovering something new because it allows a far deeper understanding of the work and also my own taste, which is unfathomable to me, never mind anyone else!

OK, guys - maybe I woke up feeling overly sensitive this morning. I quite like the (female !) vocal Yes, she's certainly not a squeaky soprano!
