I've just picked one of these up on eBay to try between the Schiit Wyrd and my Oehlbach XXL Master Clock. As everyone says that the best cable is no cable at all, I though I'd find out if it's true. It can also be used to switch off the 5v USB power to the Oehlbach. uptoneaudio.com/products/uspcb-a-b-adapter

I've read about these as a 'cable eliminator'. Presumably, you can manipulate the Oehlbach to be very close?

This looks interesting Paul. Never seen one before. Look forward to your thoughts on this

I've read about these as a 'cable eliminator'. Presumably, you can manipulate the Oehlbach to be very close? No problem, it'll be replacing a 0.5m run of WireWorld Starlight 7. I could even plug it directly into the DAC, and have the Oehlback hanging off of it, which I may well also try. The interesting bit is going to come when I start switching the USB 5v in and out, which is the purpose of that little dip switch you can see. Both the Wyrd and the Oehlbach provide their own 5v in place of the one sent down the cable from the source, so cutting one, or both (does my DAC actually require 5v in to function in USB mode? I believe it does, but we'll see.) might prove both fun, and informative. Here's a couple more pics. As you can see from the pic below, they also cone in a USB Mini config, and the final variant has the USB 'B' plug rotated by 90 o

On a side note: Holy crap! I've just seen what Future Shop want for 0.3m Starlight 7 USB A>B cable these days. I definitely got bargains with my 0.3m & 0.5m " new old stock," purchases last year, from Analogue Seduction. I paid £100.00 for the pair.

I was thinking of trying one of these adapters Paul, did you reach any conclusions on it?

I was thinking of trying one of these adapters Paul, did you reach any conclusions on it? My apologies, Jules. I thought I'd already done it. Going from memory now, about the only major difference was that it made everything a damn sight harder to position and hook up. The idea that it's very short is great, the idea that it's rigid; not so great. Sound-wise it made no difference whatsoever to my setup as far as I can remember, otherwise it would have remained in situ, which it didn't. I honestly can't remember anything about switching the USB 5v in and out, but again, if there were anything positive to say it would have stayed put. It did not outperform a 0.3m WireWorld Starlight 7 cable is what I can tell you, but of course, that was in my system, not yours.

Thanks for the update Paul, I already have a USB cable with separate data and power lines but thought this looked mildly intriguing as an experiment in doing away with the cable itself. Not in a rush to try it but if I see one come up I might give it a go.
