Here's an interesting tonearm that I've never heard of before. It's a bit different from the norm in several ways, not least in that it's available in a 7" version (as well as both 9 & 13"). Also, the tube and headshell are on a dead straight axis all along their full length. The bearing pivot floats in a bath of magnetic oil (a ferrofluid?) and the entire structure is not attached to the turntable in any way - it just sits there. As I said, interesting. There's a review of it hereAlso, a dealers webpage with lots of info.

I've heard of it, Chris, but never seen one. As you say, interesting design. I think the Well Tempered Arm has already demonstrated that there are many ways to approach tonearm design, not all of them rigid.

As it just plonked on the table , it must weigh a fair bit , which would mean it wouldn't be suitable for sprung suspended decks .
A a minimum of £3.5k [ current exchange rates ] the price is questionable .

When you say the entire structure is not attached to the TT you mean the armtube/headshell/counterweight i presume. The massive oil bath sits in the arm mount place, and not on the shelf by the side of the TT - hence not suited to bouncers, as previously noted. Isolation of the cartridge from the record player environment has a lot of benefits - depending how it integrates with the rest of the record player design. The thread bearings on the F6 (F6a? - whatever Arthur is calling the arm on his Flamenca turntable this week) are very effective at isolating the environment, and as a consequence improving bass articulacy. He demonstrates this by tapping the plinth with a screwdriver with different arms fitted. Of course, this is more critical to the performance of a cheap record player where the "plinth" is essentially a lump of solid mdf and is not contributing much to mechanical isolation itself, but
in principle - effective isolation of the arm beam/tube helps greatly in improving bass performance - and this arm should do that. How much more effective it is than a thread bearing arrangement is less apparant - but if anyone has a spare I daresay I could ponce an F6 for a bake-off. Both arms are of course still limited by rigidity and resonance issues on the tubes themselves - the bearing will do nothing for that.
Theres a lot of engineering there for your £3500 - I wouldn't have thought that an excessive price if I was making it, and retailing through normal channels

Arthurs F6 is a cracking arm total giant killer & about 1/5th of the cost. Viv arms i,ve seen are all mounted externally on big turntables with a isolation platform
