For the boss to listen to audiobooks from her iPad please
Most important spec Around the ear, not in or on Blue Tooth seems very nice - any drawbacks ? Sound quality good enough for audio books !
Extremely good to be able to buy bits as they wear out like ear covers
New or 2nd hand
Currently using cheap ish Sony over ear jobbies Likes the comfort of my Sennheiser HDR140s

I bought those cans for my mum - they are more than adequate for casual use.

Bose AE2 are my choice for portable listening.
Around ear, very light, good sound, replacement pads about a fiver.

Thanks both Slinger and Jules Do the ears fit inside the ear pieces ? Look as if they might rest on the ears a bit

The only reason I didn't go up the range to the noise-cancelling version is, living alone, there's no ambient noise to cancel 99.9% of the time.

The cans are over ear as Paul says but they aren't cavernous like old-skool ones. So if you sport rather extravagantly engineered ears you might want to look elsewhere.
As for noise-cancelling will they be used on a train, plane or bus etc ?

Noise cancelling Pros : Can cancel me out and allow me louder music
Cons: Can cancel me out and I'll only ever get her attention by potentially, at least, scaring her to death

When allowed to visit the grand daughters could be useful to drown them out....

The noise the little horrors make is stunning 90% of the time full volume, that is a lot of volume. 10% asleep, or is that my imagination... A benefit of lockdown is not having them here. Noise only of course !
