I wonder how the future will exploit that terrain in terms of architecture.
Or will Mars colonists turn into Morlocks?
Or will all the intial settlers just die and put the whole thing off for decades?
Curious times.

Needs a few hundred years of terraforming. If not thousands.
It'll be cool way, way beyond our lifetime.
Maybe;)

So, it went forwards a bit, then back, looked left then looked right and turned right about. Isn't that how you do the Okey Cokey?

A piece of the Wright brothers' first airplane is on Mars. NASA's experimental Martian helicopter holds a small swatch of fabric from the 1903 Wright Flyer, the space agency revealed Tuesday. The helicopter, named Ingenuity, hitched a ride to the red planet with the Perseverance rover, arriving last month. Ingenuity will attempt the first powered, controlled flight on another planet no sooner than April 8. It will mark a "Wright brothers' moment," noted Bobby Braun, director for planetary science at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The Carillon Historical Park in Dayton, Ohio, the Wrights' hometown, donated the postage-size piece of muslin from the plane's bottom left wing, at NASA's request. phys.org/news/2021-03-wright-brothers-1st-airplane-nasa.html?utm_source=nwletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=weekly-nwletter

If the Wright Brothers could know where a piece of their plane ended up...

Well let's hope they sterilised it before sending otherwise there certainly will be life on Mars! Nice idea though.

The Ingenuity helicopter is lowered 4 inches from its stowed location on the base of the Perseverance rover to the surface of Mars and makes ready for its first flight in about 1 weeks time.

NASA’s Mars Helicopter Survives First Cold Martian Night on Its Own Making it through the frigid Martian temperatures after being deployed by NASA’s Perseverance rover is a major milestone for the small rotorcraft. NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter has emerged from its first night on the surface of Mars. Evening temperatures at Jezero Crater can plunge as low as minus 130 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 90 degrees Celsius), which can freeze and crack unprotected electrical components and damage the onboard batteries required for flight. Surviving that first night after being deployed from where it was attached to the belly of NASA’s Perseverance rover on April 3 is a major milestone for the 4-pound (1.8 kilograms) rotorcraft. In the days to come, Ingenuity will be the first aircraft to attempt powered, controlled flight on another planet. www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/nasas-mars-helicopter-survives-first-cold-martian-night-on-its-own?utm_source=iContact&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nasajpl&utm_content=daily20210405-1

Keep up to date with the Martian helicopter via NASA's dedicated Web page mars.nasa.gov/technology/helicopter/#Quick-FactsFirst flight tentatively scheduled for late this coming Sunday. It doesn't have a camera on board (which is a shame, but too heavy I guess) but the Perseverance rover should be a good viewing platform.

I thought Ingenuity must have a camera on board Jerry. So what's it's function then if it can't send images?
