I was amused by my relatives in Italy in the early 70s. They said that Rovers were very good cars..the Americans even took one to the moon. The world was different then..much less connected so these misunderstandings weren't surprising. Funny though.

The quality of the new images is rather epic.

^ Fake vid! - well, it's certainly not Perseverance. Looks very much like the Curiousity rover at Mount Sharp with added fake sound? (there isn't a microphone on that one)

Sorry about the faked video, Jerry. It was late. I'm assured that this is genuine though.

Yes I found the pictures mind-bending.
The precision and smoothness of the operation is just incredible.

Some great pics from Perseverance on Mars as it preps up to start exploring. www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-56238018 And a view of the Perseverance rover from orbit, showing the rover and blast marks from the landing rockets ...

This might sound daft, but the images are so good they're beginning to make the martian surface look "ordinary," if you know what I mean.

I agree, it's astonishing and too Earth-like to take in at first.

You'd feel differently about it if you were there.
The sun about half its usual size in the sky, not to mention gravity being 1/3rd what we're used to.
Good points include you'll be about half your age in Martian years, bad points include getting birthday presents half as often.

The landing video was very good. Looks like they might have splashed out on a decent mobile phone to take the pics/video. I am starting to be swayed it might even be genuine;)

You would also have the quite compelling need to breath and keep from freezing. Not to worry, though, as it wouldn't last long.
