Good morning all,i have a question for those that are using EL34's output valve in there amp. i'm currently using 6550 tungsol valves in my amp but i'm going to switch them out for EL34's. and need to know what the most musical EL 34 sounding valves are out there. Best regards Tim

Hi Tim
Unless you have an amp with an especially clever autobias circuit like Primaluna amps have, then I don't think that a EL34 is a drop in replacement for a 6550. I think it might go PHUT.
But you need advice from a techie, not a techno-numpty like me.

As for answering your question, my fave EL34 are TAD (Tube Amp Doctor). But then I'm not much of an EL34 fanboy, and TAD make them sound much more lively and interesting!

...or you could try TAD 6550s?

EL34's very warm and cuddly by comparison. Thick midrange.
You could drop KT88's in (check first though). KT88's do nicer low frequencies over 6550 imo.
I preferred Harmonix over Tesla and Svetlana, save up for some GEC? (like burning money😂)

The Svetlana Winged C always had a very good rep. NOS best but there is a reissue.
