Is your system - journey fairly complete, satisfied, time to stop messin' , too busy enjoying the music ?
Nearly there ? or still some way to go ?

It's almost there since I made a radical change and redesigned it for streaming only, two years ago.
Optimise and tweak are the watchwords now, I'm not considering any major component changes.

Sounds a good place, on the journey..... Incidentally, what was the main thing that made you give up on the vinyl front end ?, as you know I know you had a pretty good one. I ask out of curiosity as I just couldn't see myself giving that side up, it brings too much joy, so It'll always be a part of my set-up until the day I'm just unable to, or haven't got it in me to set up and align a cart properly anymore.

Always more to investigate. It's the journey that makes it interesting for me, I'm not seeking a destination.

Just messing around accumulating masses of triodes and rectifiers and optimising my DAC to run them as well as possible.
Also some recent speaker messing/optimisation.
Wouldn't mind some AG Trios and bass horns... that is about the only worthy upgrade I reckon. I just object to the price! Which is absurd new.

I just want to optimise my streaming set-up this year. Amp and speakers are staying the same for sure.

I cannot see myself changing my speakers or amplifiers. The only area that probably change over time is elements of the digital front end. So I ordered a Mutec MC 3+ and that has a few options to be pushed further. I had a really decent turntable and after a good few years of not using it I finally accepted it was time to move on.

Ideas come to me from time to time.
Need to test the Black Ravioli I put under the speakers recently to confirm they worked.
Could get another Tacima 6 Way Mains Conditioner to replace a 6 way running PCs etc upstairs. Perhaps try the one in the kitchen up there.

Main system - all NVA amplification and cables - It will remain unchanged as it sounds excellent. Second system - buggering about with them is the actual reason for having them, isn't it?

Incidentally, what was the main thing that made you give up on the vinyl front end ? Good question, and I don't want to unduly diss a format I have loved for well over half my life. It came down to a moment of revelation back when I was experimenting with streaming and found myself listening more and more to Spotify with the Beresford SEG DAC. I heard the potential and had a long think about it. I knew that I couldn't take my vinyl front end any further without spending a ton of money on it, and I saw new releases becoming increasingly rare. Streaming offered me a way of going well past vinyl's limiting sound quality (little did I know how far) and also giving me access to a catalogue that I would need many lifetimes to accumulate in a collection. Once I had that thought, there was no turning back. I could blame jandl100 too!

I haven't played an LP since I started on streaming. The TT is boxed up - whether I can bring myself to sell it and the vinyl collection is another matter. Strangely I don't feel at all attached to my classical vinyl so that is most likely to go first. I guess the rock and pop connect me to my childhood more.
I will take this chance to thank the forum for all their help on the digital side of things. The boy John is reasonably local to me and I found his visits extremely helpful. Last year the set up was sounding superb, so any gains from playing with Bluetooth and DAC's in 2021 will be icing on the cake.

Thanks Martin - not that I necessarily agree with the 'limiting sound quality' bit, I think analogue and digital offer a difference in my own experience, but yeah, I understand your reason for the pursuit and you're certainly extracting every last drop, from what I know

So far then I'm super happy with the vinyl front and that wont be going anywhere that I can imagine, brings much satisfaction.
Digital side is where changes will defo occur. I'm done with nice vintage cdp's no matter how regarded they are. It's time to move on there so I'll be going the stand alone cd transport, coupled with a good DAC route and see how I like that. When that happens I'll report back on my findings.
