The man who composed the music for Anthony Quinn's "Zorba The Greek," in fact, including Zorba's Dance, played on the "sirtaki," which has become a standard in Greek restaurants everywhere.
Thanks, Jerry, I'm looking forward to trying this.

What an interesting choice.
The wiki biog is well worth reading - he has led quite a life.
Like most I'm familiar with him through his film work and I'll admit I had no idea what a huge variety of music he has composed for the classical genre and others.

First movement immediately reminds me of 'pastoral' RVW ! Surprisingly romantic to me.
A lovely theme.

I keep hearing snippets of Prokofiev, but that's probably just me.

This is good, too (Spotify only has one track from the album of the 1st symphony that is playable)

I have to give it a 5 - 'very nice' for me.
I like the colourful melodies and there's an expansiveness to the music which isn't perhaps surprising.
I like the performance too.

I'll give it a 5/5 too, because it's definitely better than a "4". There are some debts being paid both to other composers, and to film music, but it's all tied up with a very nice bow. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Agreed.
The other familiar bit is from one of the slow movements in The Planets.
My work is done.

A 3 for me It is pleasant to listen nice romantic sound and I enjoy the tone of the cello but never gets truly memorable or inspiring

Sorry, John, I didn't mean to seem to be ignoring you! I only usually associate you with more modern-style classical. I didn't think you'd be very interested in this one.

I sometimes can enjoy romantic classical music But as you say I usually prefer the more modern pieces

Playing it on the work machine, it's very nice. I'm not usually one for cello but this is most definitely superior, up there with the Dvorak. 5/5 on your scale, Jerry.
