Here's a fascinating series of videos about the Mullard company valve factory in Blackburn, once employing thousands of workers.

Here's another, more detailed film about the manufacture of valves.

Really fascinating stuff.
The processes that it all goes through are mind boggling.
Must try and find the history of Mullard. What the hell happened to it all. Just imagining what happened to those machines that took so much development. Hopefully they were sold on rather than just scrapped.

There was an article somewhere recently about a bloke visiting valve manufacturers in China. Sort but I just can't remember much more about it - maybe someone else can? I do think it was a bit of a horror story though. Loads of valves exactly the same but with different labels etc... Gonna try and track it down and will update this if I find it.

Brilliant. Did you ever see the video of the French guy who makes his own valves in his garage? It's an education in what can be achieved.

Here it is. I hope this works OK. Slightly dodgy music but the video footage is incredible.

Here's another old piece of film about valves, this time it's from the US. Look out for the monster radio transmitting valve at about 18 minutes into the clip - 250 kilowatts!!

I'm not sure I'd like to be in the same room when firing up that valve!

Great thread - I've watched the Frenchman a few times over the years:)
I've not see the Mullard vids, watched the first 2 so far... - what a snapshot in time they are!
I have in my system 16 valves in my phono stage and power amps all together
