I have ignored the Mendy VC for years now.
It has never really captured my imagination in the way that the other heavy-hitter VC’s do, like the Beethoven or Brahms.
Last night I was watching this superbly informative yet entertaining video from conductor and educator Ben Zander in which he does an ‘Interpretation Class’ with a young violinist.
It’s fascinating how shifts of tone in the performance can really transform one’s perception of the piece.
I guess I’ve probably judged it previously on rather old-school overly romantic interpretations so I am going to reassess the VC with some recent recordings to see if I can find something different in it as well.

It's always been a favourite of mine, so lyrical. Beautifully constructed, too. Always a fascinating listen for me.
Have a go with Hilary Hahn, there's a great live performance on YouTube.

Zander is a nutter !
Love him. Masterclass
From my perspective this is like listening to a different version of a track you know and having a different opinion, better, worse or different
Wasn't keen on the first version AZ, After Zander, much better
My horizons are broadened
Thanks Jules
Sheer coincidence this popped up on TED

Glad you enjoyed it Mike!
I posted the 'transformative power' video you found in another thread a couple of days back but there wasn't any interest - have you watched it yet?
Quite superb talk IMO.
