As my original choice, In Terra Pax - Gerald Finzi (1901 - 1956) - seems to have sunk without trace, here's your bonus. It's also entitled "In Terra Pax" but this Christmas album is performed by The Suspicious Cheese Lords. Go on, admit it, you're now torn between caution and curiosity. Well, let curiosity win. The Suspicious Cheese Lords' name is derived from the title of the Tallis motet Suscipe quæso Domine. In the process of "translating" the title, an early Lord observed that "suscipe" looked rather like "suspicious", "quæso" was close to queso, the Spanish word for "cheese", and "Domine" is legitimately Latin for "Lord" (the actual translation is: "Receive, I beseech, O Lord"). Hence, "Suspicious Cheese Lord"—which in time became adopted as the group's name. While the whimsical name has served to draw attention to the group, it belies the group's decidedly serious musical sensibilities. Happy wossname everyone.

I enjoyed your 1st go round with the Finzi. Probably not French enough for the rabble you get round here.

It doesn't seem that anyone is interested in peace on earth at the moment. Listening now, and I have to confess I'm not that keen. It's all a bit light and boppy - rather similar to playing good music through a Linn system. Are they hacking along at too fast a pace? It doesn't convey much in the way of emotion to me. Count me as unimpressed. It really does leave the same impression as a Linn Unidisk player I once (very briefly) owned. That somehow managed to trivialise everything it played. .... No, on track 4 now, I can't bear any more. >hits the Stop icon on Spotify <

Oops, Christmas got in the way.
It's pleasant enough playing it on the kitchen system. Not overwhelmingly wonderful.

I was thinking it was pleasant enough but when the score gets more complex and demanding it all starts to fall apart. I don't think The Sixteen or Tallis Scholars need to retire just yet!! 😁
