Being a card carrying veggie I approached this with caution. Watching the 2nd one tonight www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/search?q=Should+I+Eat+MeatWhat struck me was the supreme lack of detail in many places, the usual Horizon approach, padded and repeated horribly, travels all over the world for soundbites The main thing, yes he will carry on eating meat, but at a massively lower level, for a couple of days a week only. My guess is he will eat less meat in his meal than most people but only on those 2 days If everyone can pick that out of the shotgun pellet delivery of the programme that means a lot less meat to be consumed with all processed meats avoided totally.......

There is no evidence being a veggie makes for a longer life . Thus , veggie's foresake one of lifes great pleasures ,and there are only five *, for nothing .
Addittionally , is it better to have lived for a couple of months and then eaten than not lived at all . All animals are bred for consumption , no consumption no existence . Seems to me as a lamb i would rather have frolicked in a field for 21 weeks then never frolicked at all .
* Sex, food , intoxication, friendship and culture .

Mike you seem to have completely missed the point of the documentary. Mind you so did Horizon, which is that we are fast approaching a point where there will not be enough land to support the population density. Things can and will only get worse.

Cut down some trees and GM the crops. I know you are trying to stimulate debate DQ but that is crass even by your standards...

I don't say anything i don't advocate. I have a utilitarian approach. I would rather everyone on planet earth lived a happy life of fulfilment and the planet be dead in 600 years than for it to carry on as is for the next 4 billion. The death of everything and absolute stasis is the inevitable end game anyway.

Won't be long before meat can be grown in vats, that'll solve the land problem.

That's a short term solution though Ed. Long term, enforced birth control is the inevitable consequence of unsustainable population growth whether we like it or not. Either that or we had better get our arses into gear and develop a workable solution to colonisation of other planets because there is a finite amount of usable land on Earth.

Nope I ain't. You're obvious opposition is not morally superior I don't claim to have a morally superior position or opinion DQ but if we are to survive as a species then we need to make some drastic changes to how we live our lives. In short we all need to work together to solve the problem, something I'm certain you will appreciate.

I am not a raving Green activist btw, in fact not so very long ago I wouldn't have given a crap about doing my bit for the environment. The point here is that if someone like me can see the impending car wreck then it is probably far too late to avoid the inevitable.

We have had the good times and seen some great developments but all I see ahead is downhill all the way. I know politics and religion are off limits but what hope is there is something like ISIS can exist in the modern world (in it, obviously not part of it except for their guns and media use) Maybe Jammy is right. Problem is that if anyone survives, it will all happen over again. The bit of the reptilian brain in there seems determined to dominate.
