Bit of an odd one here I suppose. Got stood up by a date on Thursday. That's happened before this one actually kind of hurt. And thats OK. That's dating. I had bought some nice flowers for the date and so they were then just a bouquet of red and pink roses in my kitchen in a vase with nothing to do. Someone suggested to bring them to an assisted living home and brighten a resident's day. So I did. I called ahead. Today I waived and smiled at an elderly lady crossing a walk outside of a restaraunt. I know it ultimately can be boiled down to selfishness still, wanting to do something nice to gain the reward of feeling nice. But I'd like to make it a habit. I surprised myself and quit sugar for 14 days. I wonder if I can do the same by just offering small/tiny gestures of reaching out to someone once per day. Maybe that's a perversion of "the selfless act"? But so what if the act still happens? Maybe the date standing you up avoids worse in the future. One of the unexpected pleasures is seeing the faces and actions of some people when they collect stuff on Freecycle. I wave when a truck goes nicely around me on the bike, or waits patiently for traffic to clear. I also say thank you to car drivers that give me a nice wide berth even though they can't hear me Sugar is evil death. Stop it permanently

If you see someone walking towards you without a smile, give them one of yours. A little civility costs nothing and comes with it's own rewards. I always greet people when I'm out and about. The other day I was talking to a very sprightly lady who told me she was 80 years old. She went for a brisk walk every day and looked marvellous for her age. TBH, I'm interested in people and their stories. Just being nosey ? Dunno, but I'm not going to stop doing it Good luck with the dating. The right person will come along eventually

A date who stands you up is self-filtering and has removed themselves from the pool.
Be grateful and find someone better.

Ye the more I think about it the more I wonder what I dodged. Partly because I'd literally never do that. Thanks again for the words of advice everyone. Regarding sugar, I got it into my mind somewhere that's its just terrible for the body. I decided no more processed sugars or sweet snacks. I like to see it called evil death because it makes it seem even less appealing now, thankfully. Would indeed be glad to stop it permanently. After 14 days off of it, then going back, it didnt feel right or good. But yesterday I bought a blender to make vegetable/fruit smoothies not for taste but health. I put in celery, carrots, blackberry, strawberry, banana. Not tasty lol. The banana has about 14-19 grams of sugar. Though since I'm not after taste, and it was quite ghastly a mix, I'd be willing to make it a vegetables only mix. I bought kiwi also having read that it can help control sugar levels.

Apples and blackberries tend to be a staple of my smoothies, which usually taste ok.

Yes I've read that strawberries and blackberries are both low in sugar. Wow, I forgot about chia seeds. At a previous I had a bag of them and always forced them into meals and it was an awkward texture on my mackerel or chicken lol.
But, in a smoothie? Could be just right. That's a great link thanks.
I'm 41 now, I've had my fun with stuffing my face with sweets and fats. I run often for 2 years now. Can do 130-160 pushups over the course of a run.
Someone told me that my body took care of me all of these years and forgave (and reversed) all of my bad choices and that it's time to return the favor. I agree with that.
I'm still terrible with diet soda, but when I get into making lemon/cucumber water, I notice the body can learn to crave that kick from the lemon, and mineral water, almost as much as the acids in the soda.

Sugar in fruit is fine. I accidentally took out the small amount of processed (poison) sugar when I went vegan. With the blueberries, grapes, raspberries, strawberries and bananas I now consume I must have a touch of fruit sugar The boss makes soups with all sorts of veg I don't like, but the soup is great ! Stepdaughter made some vegan Christmas Cake which the boss brought home The sugar in it and icing on top makes me feel decidedly odd. Can't give it to the dogs as far too rich and I doubt it would do the wildlife any good either A tiny piece to day to see how I feel after

Dump the soda. Wish I'd eaten much healthier much earlier Good stuff, especially if vegan Chia seeds Poppy seeds Sunflower seeds Pumpkin Seeds Sesame Seeds Golden Flax seeds Walnuts Almonds Brazils Broccoli is the very best veg going

Ok thanks, Mike. It's 2022. Time to try. Im bad with soda, but thats not the soda's fault, its my mind's perception of it. I've managed to start 2022 off right regarding exercise.
My mind seems to look for streaks. Will run and exercise again tonight and see if only the truly bitter cold can stop me this year.
Last year the cold saw me show up to the business park, get out of my car, take 10 steps and then chicken out, and haul bum back to the car. This year I wonder if a better insulation suit would help, like athletes wear.
Martin, have you tried warm broccoli with melted cheddar cheese? Quite good.
Is broccoli the best veggie? I thought that was Celery there at the podium.
Yes, chia seeds, indeed. Will check on those other seed recommendations, Mike.

Soda is sugar. Dump it
Diet is more important than exercise. Walking in fresh air is good if you don't want to run and way less impact.
There is a saying, like No such thing as too cold just the wrong clothes Think my lowest to cycle 9 miles to work was -4 or -6'c
Broccoli is the best so far as I know Celery is almost irrelevant, so far as I know. I still have it lunchtime with.... Tomato Courgette Red Onion Mushroom in the oven in Olive oil Avocado Red Pepper various nuts as above All the above excellent for one reason or another

Amazing. Each year since 2019 I've put together a couple of pieces of the puzzle. In 2022 I've almost assembled it. I'll take these teachings and apply them. By 2023 would be great to be living in a fully functioning optimal health plan, deviations would be considered just a treat. Yes, the impact of running is not so great, maybe I can get a bike. I think you're biking quite a bit right Mike? Might be better for me than my runs. Great link below, provided by Brian, further up on this page. $8 for the paperback I've ordered it.

Even a tiny piece of Christmas cake with icing on top is making me feel less than right. Was great when I ate it. Not good now though

Just ordered bananas, a selection of frozen berries, cherries, chia seeds, goji berries, rolled oats, plain Greek yoghurt, and oat "milk," (no sugar, no sweeteners), plus pure raw "Sweet Field Honey," for a bit of sweetness. I really like Honey - I always sweeten my green tea with it - and it has a range of positive health effects too. I've not liked any " store-bought," smoothie I've tried. TBH they've all tasted as if a bunch of people got together to work out how to ruin the taste of bananas. Twenty quid for one of these.... smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DGLUW4E/ and we'll see if my own attempts fare any better.

Haha that's cool. Put together a committee I'd like to see what can be done about the taste of strawberries. They're good, maybe a little too good for their own good.
The smoothie from night was not tasty at all but the texture was great I think because of the banana but also if you see how thick a celery smoothie its quite nice. Brian mentioned peanut butter in a smoothie. Of I could find low sugar peanut butter, in fact I'll look today, I'd try it immediately.
I wonder if we could have a smoothie or juicing thread. There are so many combinations to try, someone may get it right.
I will drive to the market today for those chia seeds. I'll have to research how processed are they.

I had one of those Breville smoothie makers Paul, and they are decent, but these www.amazon.co.uk/NUTRiBULLET-600-Nutrient-Extractor-Graphite/dp/B01N27W15O/ref=sxin_14?asc_contentid=amzn1.osa.a2c82738-bdff- are much better. I've just took mine out the cupboard and ordered bananas, frozen berries, and smooth peanut butter. I'm also going to treat myself to some honey. Porridge oats also works for me. Chia seeds already in cupboard,

Tbh one gripe I have is the noise, that's ok its worth it but they are loud if you have neighbors above.
I'm wondering now if my $40 budget MagicBullet is just an entry level.

The cheaper units don't temd to make a true smoothie, they can leave the drink a little bit lumpy. They're all noisy I think.
