Spinal Tap to Reunite for Democrats in Pennsylvania Fundraiser
It will go to 11
The Spinal Tap team is hoping to rock the Democratic party in Pennsylvania.
The creative brains behind the iconic 1984 mockumentary This is Spinal Tap — Rob Reiner, Harry Shearer, Michael McKean and Christopher Guest — are coming together Oct. 14 for a virtual reunion. Moderated by Patton Oswalt, the event will serve as a fundraiser for Pennsylvania Democrats or PA Dems. "Every dollar raised goes directly towards ending Trumpism by winning Pennsylvania," reads the invite.
It's being put together by the same backers of the recent Princess Bride reunion on Sept. 13 that also featured Reiner and Oswalt along with stars Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Carol Kane, Chris Sarandon, Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal and Christopher Guest reprising their original characters during a virtual table read. That event raked in $4.25 million for Wisconsin Democrats.
Now attention is turning to Pennsylvania — referred to by Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight on Sept. 15 as "the single most important state in the 2020 election" — and Jason Henry, executive director of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, says his organization is ready.
"Democratic enthusiasm in Pennsylvania is already turned up to eleven — we're the Keystone State and the key to winning this election. We're excited to partner with the Spinal Tap team to bring even more energy to power Democratic wins from the State House to the White House," said Henry in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
