I've just picked up a pair of these on eBay headphonereview.com/over-ear/sennheiser-hd-440-bt-review/ Long story short: I've had to buy a "dongle" to implement Bluetooth on my PC to use the Line 6 Amplifi TT I bought as an instrument/mic interface so I can finally dispense with the cute little pair of Klipsch wired speakers I've been using for gaming and general PC duties etc. I could have chosen to go up the range a bit, but for what I'd gain (pretty much just noise cancelling and some silvery metal bits) it didn't seem worth it, as they'll be used where there will be no external noise worth talking about, and as they're very well padded over-ear cans passive noise-cancelling should be pretty decent anyway. I'll still be using either my Audio-Technica ATH-M50X or SONY MDR7506 cans for studio monitors, and my Grado SR 80s if I actually ever need to use "hi-fi" headphones again, but living alone that's pretty unlikely. Still, that's only 5 pairs of headphones. Somebody told me Jerry has 87.

86. I've just sold a pair.
Mind you, there's a pair on my 'bay watch list for tomorrow. And curiously, they're Bluetooth as well - my first venture into that tech, I plan to use them from my phone, so that should be all set up for BT.

I won't jinx you by asking what they are, Jerry, but I'm sure you'll share with us if you win them. The main thing that puts me off using BT with mobile devices is that it's known to drain batteries quite quickly, that's why I'm restricting myself to using it on the PC.

Ah, I didn't know that. Oh well, I'll keep the phone on a charge cable while I'm listening - I'll still have cable-free headphones. I'm curious what they'll be like. A few years ago I had a cableless pair of Senns with their own transmitter station, it was pre-BT, I guess. My goodness, they set me back about £140 and sounded awful!

I still don't think I'd use Bluetooth if I were aiming at real top-quality audio reproduction given the limited bandwidth. Again, it's only stuff I've read on the interweb, and apparently BT is improving with each iteration. There's also a school of thought that believes the quality of the actual internal electronics of headphones has had a lot to do with the poorer-sounding reproduction. I think it really is "suck-it-and-see" territory.

Agreed.
Friend of mine is looking at shelling out for some fancy BT cans - Bose / B & W / Sennheiser etc They all seem to have their pros and cons.
Give me a simple wired pair any day!

I would have thought the ... would have told you all you needed to know. Perfectly explicit I would have said. For under fifty quid I'm not expecting ultra-high-quality and they're only going to be used for computer duties, e.g. the odd "spooky" game where cans may increase the atmosphere. The ellipsis is used to indicate a missing word, sentence, or even a whole section from a text (without altering its original meaning) so it could mean: " Actually I know these headphones - got them for my mum last year and they are the mutt's nuts." or " Actually I know these headphones - got them for my mum last year and she threw them at me because they were awful." I'll find out for myself before the week's out though.

" Actually I know these headphones - got them for my mum last year and they are the mutt's nuts." or " Actually I know these headphones - got them for my mum last year and she threw them at me because they were awful." Exactly. Totally ambiguous and a complete waste of space. Drives me potty, well, pottier.

You think you'd ever consider dishing out the $400-500 for the ifi DSD Black Label BT dac/amp? The idea of excellent sound quality from an external amp that is connected through BT certainly appeals to me.

I seem to remember reading that somewhere, but I probably won't be wearing them for any great length of time. Somebody remarked that the ear cups were a bit on the small side too.

Right, managed to sneak a 5 min listen to these cans. Source was HD YouTube from an iPad, playing Tchaikovsky VC.
Resolution of the solo violin was crisp and acceptable enough but the drivers were getting a bit unstuck when the orchestra get on their bikes. I then found the sound a bit edgy and shrill for my liking - I certainly couldn't listen long at a decent volume. Soundstage felt very constricted compared to my Philips. The pads are too snug fitting for me - my ears felt like they were overheating! Not built for comfort from my point of view but my mum finds them much more comfortable.

Yes,yes, but how do they sound when your mum's playing Quake, or Doom with them on?
