Decent looking pair ont bay the now but a long drive...
Are they gonna be worth it? My Richmonds sound good so I’m hoping for a “big box” version of the same...

Nice. Which version, Chris, Do you know? There were three that I know of. The modern version is a slim floorstander with two smallish bass mid drivers and an offset tweeter in between - I wouldn'd be so keen myself. The middle version (II) had three drivers and a reflex port all in line, right down the centre of the baffle. They have protection fuses inside which blow for seemingly no reason every now and then. Easily available and cheap to replace though. The first ones had an offset bass driver and a reflex port offset to the opposite side.
Watch out for the surrounds on the bass drivers.

I have a feeling that jachawk may have owned a pair sometime in the past.

It’s the first version.
The whole Castle sound suits me just fine

Forum persona André, raves about them.
I have Richmonds. Always fancied Avons and the Isis models.

I have a feeling that jachawk may have owned a pair sometime in the past. I've had a few pairs of Castle speakers in the past, Howard mk1's, Durhams and Kendals all from the 70's and 80's, not had any of their more recent offerings though. They had a reputation for their cabinet making and made the cabinets for other brands, the Kendals i had needed quite a bit of restoring as the cabinets where badly scratched, but because they used such thick veneers I was able to sand them all out something i wouldn't have been able to do with other brands that tended to use quite thin veneers. As i recall they made quite a nice silk dome tweeter that they used in many of their speakers of that era, it wasn't the last thing in detail but made a very pleasing sound.

Thanks Mike. I thought I remembered from somewhere that you had owned a pair of the Conways mentioned in the OP. Having owned a pair of the old stand mount Pembrokes myself, I agree with you on everything you say about the cabinetry and the tweeters.
