Dear Friends, I thought we could have a little fun with a competition I have designed for you. It’s simple, yet tricky! Here is the painting Ophelia by John Everett Millais (1852)
What you need to do is to come up with a soundtrack that you think represents the essence of the painting - simply choose any piece of *classical music*, old or modern. A little description of why you have chosen that music would be nice, but not compulsory. The only condition is that your selection must be uploaded for us to listen to easily - spotify / YouTube etc It’s winner takes all! Be the envy of your friends with this spectacular luxury and exclusive prize - a 3 cup stove pot coffee percolator that has been hand-forged in fire, using ancient and secretive skills that have been handed down through generations of Sicilian master craftsmen. The competition will run for two weeks from today after which I will put up a poll for us to vote on the winner. You are allowed to enter more than once.TAS staff are warmly invited to make suggestions and vote, but of course may not win this glittering prize. I thank you.

Fantastic - I love pre-Raphaelite paintings.
I'll get my thinking cap on.

Is this psychological profiling of TAS members by the back door, Jules. And to what ends?...
Beware of Greeks bearing 3 cup coffee percolators.................

Haha!! Jaw drop. Huge grin. This is a Pergolesi Stabat Mater with a difference, by ..... Ophelia's Dream. But it's not just the name, the music goes well with the chosen theme as well. open.qobuz.com/album/4260063940514

This is excellent stuff!
Jerry - are there any specific tracks or sections from your last two selections that you think work best?

Now I know why I was one of the only two people who voted that month, nobody actually listened. .

Ah, but it's like a fine wine that appreciates in quality with time ... much like your good self Paul!

I have chosen the Tallis Fantasia.
For me it encapsulates the intense melancholy of the picture, yet also its radiant beauty, capturing the iridescence of Ophelia and the very work itself.
The part of the track I have selected is from the start until 3.47.

Now I know why I was one of the only two people who voted that month, nobody actually listened. . Sorry Paul, I did listen and comment at the time, but somehow my vote disappeared. Now restored - I voted 4/5 so obviously enjoyed it at the time.

When I read the o/p I immediately thought of Satie. I've gone down a few other avenues and come back around to him.
So my submission is the Gnossienne No. 1 by Erik Satie.
