I have a Khozomo passive preamp, sorry volume control, with a stepped attenuator. As far as I can tell, it adds nothing and takes nothing away, as it should do. It also allows me to switch between non-digital sources. There is a remote control option.

Spotify Free is very compressed. The subscription service has a much better data rate and the music sounds better. That would explain it then. I still have trouble being able to access and download harddrives full of artists' work, for which they get very little. If I find something on YouTube I fancy, I buy the cd/LP. When Spotify went down recently, some artists took to Twitter telling people to go out and buy the physical item.

Hello there preamp lovers. In spite of being on holiday I just couldn't help having a little tinker with the system, so am hoping to take delivery of an interesting little passive next week.

Nice. Is there some subversive religious symbolism going on there? They look like two ornate crucifixes LOL.

Which op-amps are you using, Oliver? Unknown as of yet...as per usual with anything I take on, the details of certain parts are not to be released anyway. Not my choice, but I have to adhere to the conditions set out by the designer, to allow me to move forward with the pre. Was the same with the Phonostage...no circuit diagram was allowed to be shared. I'm not the brains, I'm the collaborative partner, project manager, constructor and face of the projects.

Well, go more towards the high-performance end with an OPA1611 rather than a 741 or NE5534.

As requested, a pic of the new buffer PCBs I'll share again when I've populated one.

Finally got one up and running in my preamp. Soak testing for 48hrs but it's very stable and sounding rather good. BT1 and BT2 (Biscuit Tin) Proper case on the way from China, and a Solid state phonostage being developed to put inside it with the preamp. Exciting times

Great stuff, good to see it progressing - didn't realise that you were going to put a stage in it!

Great stuff, good to see it progressing - didn't realise that you were going to put a stage in it! Apologies, I've only just seen your reply! Yes, the plan was always to have a premium SS Phonostage as well as my valve Phonostage, and seeing as I am going to have tons of room, it makes sense to put it inside. The SS phono is designed by Phonomac, who some here may have dealt with. He's the Technics SP10 MK2 guru who build mine. The prototype is VERY encouraging and i am just awaiting the Circuit diagram so we can get it on to mono channel PCBs. I've also been asked about the possibility of using the buffer board as.....a buffer. I have just put a PCB together and will hopefully try it as a buffer in the next couple of weeks. Just so busy building phonostages at the minute.

Ah, good to hear you are working with Angus!
So you have the potential to effectively get four different products from this project, that's very good going.

Ah, good to hear you are working with Angus! So you have the potential to effectively get four different products from this project, that's very good going. Yes. Not bad is it. Its been about 12months in the making so plenty of work has gone in Spitballing ideas back and forth etc, but the Buffer and the Phonostage are entirely from Angus's mind, with the gain suggestion coming from Firebottle. I am just the guy who gets these ideas out of their minds by asking a shit-ton of questions and then driving them into the realm of possibility. The Avalon (Angus's Phonostage) won't be coming under the "Bigbottle" umbrella, I am just helping to get that over the line in terms of recruiting the right people to do the bits we can't. Luckily, the Bigbottle Phonostage project has given me a phone full of contacts who are happy to chip in.

Does anyone have any experience with the TKD 2cp2511 volume pot? Would like to know how highly it's rated.

Finally got one up and running in my preamp. What's the latest with your preamp build dude? Well, The preamp has been in the system for a couple of months The AWM Stepped Attenuator is proving to be a masterstroke by Phonomac, who came up with the recipe for it. The preamps ultra wide bandwidth gives a soundstage of epic width and depth that really is only curtailed by the confines of the listening space. From Top to Bottom there is no peaky frequency or any nasties, it's just really clean and precise, without being forensically sterile. Transparency wise, it's like it doesn't exist in the system. It has all the fluidity and liquidity of a TVC, the control of an active and the transparency of a passive. Exactly what I wanted. I love it and am currently building two for two other folks who love it. There will be a custom LPSU for it in the coming months, but for now I am using the Walt Jung Lpsu PCB, which I then modify slightly. It does a cracking job. Mine is still in a biscuit tin lol

Nice one!
Is that with or without phono stage?
Please show us some pics of the finished product when you can.
