It's all getting a bit nasty.
The Finnish conductor for the Last Night, Dalia Stasevska, was reputedly advocating changes; I was looking at her Twitter feed earlier and she's getting absolutely slaughtered. Not very wise of her to get involved if what was written if correct though. Probably just as well she won't have a live audience.

You might want to add an extra option to the poll - Drop it for now.
I'm strongly against rewriting history, but things are over-sensitive atm.
Maybe a less fractious but still patriotic substition?
Maybe a more global kind of patriotism? Although the octopoids from Alpha Centauri might object and say it with ray guns.
Suggestions?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53895000The lyrics to some last night patriotic favourites will be dropped this year according to the article. Due to the pandemic, allegedly, although other items will be sung. You can sing along at home if you wish.

I do believe, for the first time ever, I agree with Boris! I had that happen to me once. I ended up convincing myself that he was actually agreeing with me. It made me feel marginally better.

Well, that exposes the BBC for being the bunch of Tristrams* we know they are.
*A A Gill used to call them that, to good effect.

Interesting to note that Ms Stasevska's husband is the bass player for Finnish metallers Stratovarius!

While I applaud the compromise (a "select" group of singers) I'm not looking forward to the blow-back from gammons, Brexiteers, and little Englanders who will be crowing about having "won" the battle against the "woke lefties," because they will perpetuate the story that it was the lyrics and not COVID-19 considerations that had caused the ban.

because they will perpetuate the story that it was the lyrics and not COVID-19 considerations that had caused the ban. Erm, knowing the BBC's persistent and tiresome PC, are you sure some Tristram didn't decide that the lyrics are too fruity?

And it's (equally) evil twin, the Express. Apparently it was the PM stepping in that saved the day.

Front page news!!
Staggering in the context of everything going on in the world right now, but it does kind of represent the unpleasant schisms in post Brexit UK society.

It's not so much the lyrics I have an issue with, it's the cretins who still believe them.
