Who has had the privilege of going to see any of the world's great orchestras and concert halls whilst abroad?
Where would you like to go given the choice?
It's something I would really love to do but not managed to yet!

I once saw Mahler's 4th Symphony with the Sydney SO in the Sydney Opera House. It was quite an experience.

Awesome.
A dream holiday for me would be flying from city to city, having a short break in each and taking in a top concert at each stop.

I've always wanted to see the Berliners in the Philharmonie. I have seen the SF Symphony Orchestra in the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall, San Francisco. Been to Carnegie Hall (NY) and Sydney Opera house too, but the Philharmonie remains as my 'most wanted' (I have seen numerous orchestras in St. David's Hall, Cardiff . . . that's abroad isn't it? )

Let's see what these places look like ... Nice.

Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall - gorgeous! < The 2,743-seat hall was completed in 1980 at a cost of US$28 million to give the San Francisco Symphony a permanent home. >

Carnegie Hall - looks a little austere to me!

Cardiff looks very functional - how are the acoustics Tim?

Exotic halls? Hmm. Leeds Town Hall was nice! Saw Isaac Stern playing the Brahms VC.
My foreign travel is usually countryside based not city based. Not much in the way of concert halls in the Alps, for better or worse!

Every recording I've heard from Boston Symphony Hall sounds great.

Cardiff looks very functional - how are the acoustics Tim? Actually very good Jules, but I've never sat at the extreme edges. It looks like the sound might be a touch harsh, but it isn't. It doesn't work so well for rock and pop though. I like it in there as you feel part of the performance and I used to go there with my parents when they were alive. Mum bless her used to hum along, didn't go down too well once with some Rachmaninov - the folks nearby were not amused. She didn't really realise she was doing it and I never told her, as I knew it would piss her off. San Francisco is a wonderful hall, really enjoyed that - part of my year off around the world trip. I've still got the ticket somewhere, keep meaning to scan my tickets to make some kind of digital album from them, I've got hundreds!! Carneige Hall is fantastic, lot of history in that room and that picture brought back some happy memories

I could quite fancy a spot of Wagner, at Bayreuth.

I think my mother has been two or three times to Bayreuth.

Every recording I've heard from Boston Symphony Hall sounds great. Indeed! I have some awesome recordings with Andris Nelsons; Sir Colin Davis did some great Sibelius with Boston.

Not a theatre in the strictest sense but saw La Traviata at the Verona theatre and was lucky enough to have Jose Carerras fly in for an impromptu performance.
