Frankly a magazine review is still worth more than one on Wigwam. The majority of hi-fi buyers don't read forums. In fact if you look at all the forums put together they are dominated by a very small community. They did review the Arkless then banned the designer I believe. Reading some of the inane postings on other forums it is a wonder that any new enthusiasts would join. It's notable how many sign up and post once or twice or not at all. I am the designer and as the previous poster facetiously said, yes I'm a one man band (and nobody cares nor understands.... sorry Leo Sayer moment!). James reviewed it and a rave review it was.... seems that I was supposed to immediately open a trade account in return... I joined in a thread a few weeks later which was about Quad els speakers and had no mention of me or my products and was banned for life for my trouble... there ya go.. James wanted your money. Frankly I can't understand why you weren't sent a reminder but unfortunately he is banning people without reason or notice quite frequently. I'm afraid he is developing into another Marco. In fairness to Marco he does discuss matters at length before a banning . Wigwam is now a money making venture for the owner, full stop.

No I don't buy the hifi magazines now. I was an avid HIFI + fan but when I discovered hifi forums about 4-5 years ago I have not bought a single one. Sometimes my wife will buy me the latest copy of HIFI + and put it in my stocking. The big difference between magazines and forums is, when I read magazines I tried to be interested in products that had very little relevance to me. With HIFI forums I can read exactly what interests me and only that, and there is a lot more of interest. Not only that but forums can aid the development of friendships, I must have been to 5 different homes in the last year or so from forum members hearing all sorts of good kit. Same for me. Mags are irrelevant to my hifi journey.

In fairness to Marco he does discuss matters at length before a banning . Wigwam is now a money making venture for the owner, full stop. The full story... months before the review I had a warning that without a trade account I could not post anything pertaining to my business or touting for business (after I had naughtily slipped one in...). In a PM shortly afterwards I was told that so long as I didn't tout for business I could still join in general chat. Nothing was mentioned about my trade signature. It was quite some time later (after the review) that I joined a thread about the Quad ELS's. I got a PM from a moderator telling me that the trade signature I had was against AUP and would I please remove it. This I i mmediately did, as requested (you may have noticed I'm now just Jez here!?). Thinking all was now OK I rejoined the discussion only to get a PM from James some 5 minutes later mentioning non payment of trade account and telling me I am banned for life... Yes Marco gives much more warning and indeed did so with myself. TBH I wound him up into banning me... over a dispute about some peoples opinions (that pretty much tallied with Marco's) were ok but if one continued to present opposite opinions it was not OK, which I took offence to as I saw it as censorship. Not the cleverest move with hindsight... as someone who relies on forums for customers, but it was a matter of principle as far as I saw it.

To add clarification over a couple of recent comments:
1) It's impossible to eradicate all inane comments from forums. However, we aim to maintain a high 'information:inane' ratio here on TAS. The odd exception can provide some light relief!
2) We will never charge trade subscriptions on TAS because there are essentially only personal members here, representing their own views. If they have a trade affiliation, we ask only that they declare it in their sig.
3) As long as mention of other forums and their admins is kept factual then we will allow those comments to stand. However, please tread carefully.
