Hi, i'm Mike (Jac Hawk) is my username for everything i do on the internet, so if you've seen me on another forum, yes it's me.
Soooo a brief history / run through of my life story for anyone who doesn't know me, i'm 50 and from Durham, but now i live in Chorley Lancs due to work and family. i'm interested in the usual stuff, drinking, football, electronic gadgets, and of course music and HiFi. i like most music with the exception of classical, artists i'm currently listening to are Elliot Smith, Quincy Jones and a french electro jazz group called Electro Delux.
I have 2 permanent setups 1 in the lounge an AV system for movies and TV which is based around a Yamaha RXV777 AV amp, a Philips Amibilight 55" wall mounted screen and a Bose Acoustimas 5.1 system, i know many of you will cringe at the thought of Bose but in an average sized lounge where the hell do you put 5 full sized speakers without the room looking like a hifi showroom? The second system is mainly for vinyl playback as that's what i'm mostly into although i do have a CD player plugged in, from the top down it's a heavily modded Rega Planar 3 (the only thing left from the original deck is the bearing) with an Audiomods Series 6 arm and an Audio Technica Art9 cartridge, this feeds into either a Project Tube Box or Firebottle OTP Mk3 phono stage, then into a PrimaLuna Evo400 integrated and finally out of a pair of Kralk Audio TDB12's.
I've also got a TD160 i'm fettling which should be finished in a few weeks.

Hi Mike, it's really great to see you here. I hope you are well. It seems like a long time ago that we met for me to hand over an LP you bought from me - you were on your way back up to Durham after a visit to Chorley and we met in a pub car park near the M6. Elliot Smith - a good thing to be currently listening to! Welcome to the forum.

Cheers Martin, it seems a lot of the old AOS crowd have left for whatever reason, AOS isn't what it was i'm sorry to say and my 5 or 6 year hiatus from pretty much all of the HiFi forums highlighted that all the more, i'm pleased to see that you're still alive and kicking mate, all trace of you on AOS has all but disappeared no even your user name survives

Hi Chris, it certainly has been a while and and again another former AOS member who doesn't seem to ever have existed, i do remember out meeting i bought a couple of LP's from you as i recall, if you're ever down as far as Chorley you'll have to pop in for a coffee mate.

Yes, John, Martin and I had 40,000 or so posts between us at AoS when we set up this place. One or two people abused our hospitality here and were shown the door and, for some reason they didn't like that. They each expressed their displeasure in their own creative ways!
Anyway, it's great to have you here Mike and a coffee sometime would be great.

Water under the bridge guys, as i said though AOS isn't anywhere near what it was, i still post but there's not much that really gets me interested and the overall amount of new posts i would say has dropped significantly, i guess more people are using the likes of facebook rather than forums? Anyway i'm just looking for some decent HiFi and music related chat.

Hi from me too. Nice AV amp, I've got one of its little brothers, the Yamaha RX-V485. There's a thread about it knocking around here somewhere. What cables are you using? I've had great success with AudioQuest, as detailed in that thread.

Speaker cable to the Yamaha is basically what was supplied with the bose speakers which use a range of lets say unusual connections which mean you can't really use anything else unless you make it yourself from scratch and for my AV system that's not going to happen, HDMI cables i get from work and are all Kramer 4k, audio inter connectors are Van Damme with Neutrik heads again from work.
Funny thing about a year ago a mate was looking for an AV amp, his missus didn't like all the boxes, we had just done an install somewhere and a load of old kit that was being replaced was on a palette ready to go into a skip, anyway i spied a Yamaha amp which turned out to be an RX-A1080, i didn't know if it worked and it didn't have its remote but it was in like new condition so i rescued it, turned out to work perfectly so i gave it to him.

Ah, right. That's my favourite brand that is, " get them from work."

Evening Mike & Welcome. Mr Kipling. You were quite welcoming when I joined AOS.
No. It's not what it was is it. I was "removed" after being regarded suddenly, after nigh-on 2000 posts, as someone who's intention it was was to be a nuisance, after taking a neutral position on someone and didn't share the owner's point of view.
Anyway, good luck with the Thorens 160. I can't remember if you showed a picture of it on the thread or not.

Thanks dude, I never really had a beef with him, but I know a lot who did, it's a shame it was a good site. Ha! no pictures yet of the TD160 it's in bits spread across my kitchen table, one of the perks of bachelorhood is that the kitchen doubles as a workshop, i'll post some when it's done, i'm waiting on a plinth and a top plate to be made.
