Well Hello,
A few on TAS may already know me from another forum, but as TAS was recommended to me I thought I would give it a go.
I have been into music since I was about 7 when my cousin, 5 years older introduced me to The Monkees, The Beatles, and various soul singers. I had an old Grundig R/R and recorded from a Pye valve radio from Luxembourg and Caroline. My first album was The Moody Blues - On the Threshold of a Dream when I was 11 when my parents gave me a Fidelity stacking record player for Christmas, along with Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile and Dave Edmunds - I Here You Knocking. I quickly moved onto Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple Pink Floyd and a host of others. I gradually when through various hifi's/lo-fi or sorts of during my teenage years and early twenties. Marriage saw a reasonably good Akai stack system. When we had a bit more money in the 80s I moved onto an Audio Innovations amp, with Snell Type K speakers and driven by a Luxman D-105U CD player followed with a Meridian 508 CDP. In the 90's for my 40th a pair of KEF Reference Model 3/2's came along. Somehow dissatisfaction set in and as I found out later for me it was due to CD listening, so this system went and along came a modern surround sound setup as we watched quite a lot of movies on DVD. This evolved in the 00's into a full blown Meridian 500 based system with Dali Ikon 6 speakers, which sounded pretty good. Then about 6 years ago a friend gave me first dibs of his vinyl collection he was selling, I was very fortunate to buy some pristine 60's and early 70's album, so the vinyl lust was triggered again. I got a Dual 505 to get me going and then my best friend, into hifi, sold me a Project Xperience 2 TT. I heard his system and I lusted for a better sound, so a used pair of 300b mono-blocks came and then various speakers, WB Arcs, H2's Vienna Acoustics Mozarts, Tannoy Heritage Ardens and I finally settled on a pair of Wilson Benesch Vectors(great speakers). Then a change of amplification to the Allnic T1500 which I love. I also went from the Xperience TT to a Gyrodec with SME IV, then a Voyd with a Jelco 10", and then the Pro-Ject Signature which I love. I went through a couple of phono stages until I found the LFD MMC and then later added the SUT. So fo me the last 3-4 years has been a bit of a learning curve to get to a system that I really like the sound of, most of this has be driven by my re-kindled love of vinyl, of which I now have quite a large collection. Quite a lot purchased in 2nd hand shops, or found in charity shops(I have been lucky there, not all rubbish), and three friends gave me their unused collection about 500 records in all. By the way I still own about 700 cd's which I have been gradually selling off the ones I now have on vinyl, but I am keeping the classical and some Jazz.
My musical taste is quite varied, it covers most types of rock, and blues, and I do seem to listen to quite a bit of prog rock, I like Jazz from the late 50's onward and particularly enjoy Fusion. I have a reasonable Folk/Folk rock collection as well. I also listen to classical music when the mood takes me, Baroque, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Richard Strauss to name a few.
Other loves are cars, walking, my best friend Harry the Irish Red Setter, and of course my for ever forgiving lovely wife, Sue.
So that enough about me I think, I look forward to chatting and contributing.
