Hot on the heels of two very successful albums Crosby , Stills and Nash and Deju Vu , Graham Nash released his first solo album "Songs For Beginners" (1971) . Graham wrote and produced all the tracks , there are a host of Californian in-crowd helping out on the album including Phil Lesh , Gerry Garcia , Rita Coolidge , David Crosby , Neil Young. The album contains some very good songs with pertinent lyrics , two or three are always included in CSN live performances , the single Chicago will be most familiar . I have an original pressing the production and sound quality are excellent .

Thank you, Barry. I shall compare it with David Crosby's classic solo If I Could Only Remember My Name.

Thank you, Barry. I shall compare it with David Crosby's classic solo If I Could Only Remember My Name. Yes I have that too Martin , totally different .

I am playing this now and I realise just how long it is since I last played it. The opening track is 'Military Madness' and my first thought is that Nash's voice always sounds optimistic, no matter what the subject of the song is.

Yes I have that too Martin , totally different . You say that, and I agree, but there are textures and phrases that I recognise as being common.

I can't give it full marks as I'm not finding it as engaging as the Crosby album, although it has some nice moments. 3/5.

It's when the two voices work as one where the real magic happens.

I've played this a couple of times now and it's nice to hear it again. 4 out of 5 from me.

I'm not sure I've ever heard this, so I'll give it a go later. I saw him last year and to be honest I think it's time he called it a day, but it'll be good to hear him in his prime as it were

Hollies fan from quite a long time ago. Crosby and Nash, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young fan
I may have never heard this.
Initial impressions - stripped back version of the above with his mates. Seems odd to hear only his voice as lead Listening ..........
<later> Nice 4/5 Think I can get used to him as lead. Know a few of the songs probably from CSN and CSNY
I'd be pretty broken up if I'd just split with Joni Mitchell ....
