This might be of interest in these lock-down times - bear in mind though Rotten Tomatoes is US based and these ratings relate to them, so some of these titles might not be in the UK catalogue. There's a lot of great films that are available in the UK though - or course if you have a VPN . . . .

If you want to check the full Netflix catalogues, you can here;

VPN trick doesn’t work on certain devices Netflix now picks up on that and blocks them, so I’m limited to the crap UK choices. Only reason I keep it going is that the grandkids use it.
My Nvidia Shield box being one that gets blocked 😞

NordVPN seems to work and the US choices seem somewhat better than the UK one. Mind, I juts looked at the top 20 there and it wasn't too inspiring.

. . . . so I’m limited to the crap UK choices. I thought that until recently and have cancelled my subscription a few times. However, sitting down with a keyboard and mouse so you can properly go through the above full catalogues, rather than randomly wading through their somewhat limited device interface has paid dividends for me.
I used to casually browse their web browser page or Tablet app looking for inspiration and thought what a lot of crap, but digging around in a more organised way sat at a keyboard, and I've discovered that not only are there over 4,000 films in the UK catalogue, but there are a lot of good ones. Of course that depends on taste, but I'm pretty much Indie, world and art house now and would say over 75% of the films I watch are subtitled, both on BFI and Netflix. Hollywood films have become the exception rather than the rule.
What I have also found is their suggestions have significantly improved. I'm not sure what the reason is, but I now always give a film a thumbs up or down so I think it's that. I'm also watching more independent and world cinema on Netflix, so have been giving a lot of thumbs up lately (I never used to bother giving any!). Lastly, I have also added around 100 films to my watch list that are almost exclusively world cinema and nothing Hollywood, so it could be that or a combination of all three? But I've had some great films recommended lately that precisely match my tastes - I've never found that with Netflix before.
It's really surprised me actually as I thought Netflix was far too mainstream for me, but there's a lot there at the moment I'm really enjoying. But you do have to put some work in to find them, randomly browsing their interface isn't likely to work in my experience and left me frustrated, so I just went to BFI or MUBI for a film.

The top 5 are all in the UK library and they're all very good IMO, but YMMV

Hmm, the top ten are singularly uninspiring. I shall try Lady Bird (#16) next. Ok, I'll give Kilo Two Bravo a shot, too.

I shall try Lady Bird (#16) next. Great stuff - that's one of my favourite films. Razor sharp screenplay and really great performances. It should have won some kind of Oscar (I think it had 5 nominations?), but being the product of pretty much an all female ensemble, that's not going to happen with Hollywood.
I'm a big fan of Greta Gerwig and also Noah Baumbach, who's her partner. They have a niche style I know, but both of them write and produce what I consider to be amongst the best of today's cinema, once you step away from the action adventure & marvel genres.
I hope you like it Martin, I absolutely love it

Thanks for the pointer Tim - I found some to add to my Netflix list and will probably try Kilo Two Bravo first.
I think the new Spike Lee looks worth a go - Da 5 Bloods.

This must be the first time I've actually wanted Netflix. They've got the Lightnin' Hopkins movie. It's on Amazon, but I'm buggered if I'm paying full price for a 31 minute film.

I hope you like it Martin, I absolutely love it I loved it too, Tim. A superior rites-of-passage story with a very engaging main character. How could it not be, Saoirse Ronan is brilliant in everything she does. And of course, Timothy Chalamet will be Paul Atreides soon. I thought I have a disconnected relationship with my mother but her portrayed one is such an unsupportive bitch, clearly on the spectrum too.

Apparently it's loosely based on Greta Gerwig's youth, although she won't fully admit that when asked.
Have you seen Marriage Story? Also very good IMO, got Oscar nominated too. Written and directed by Noah Baumbach
