Hi there audio friends,
I’m Tom from Melbourne, Australia. I’ve decided it’s time to upgrade various aspects of my audio system (including some DIY work) and there seems to be some great knowledge and enthusiasm on here.
Looking forward to chatting to you all and perhaps sharing some of my upgrades!
Tom

Hi Tom and welcome to TAS!
I lived in Melbourne for a period of time (Oakleigh) and went to school there.
Give us a run-down of your system and some of the upgrades you've done. Start a blog in the blog area if you like.

Thanks all for the kind welcome! I strongly encourage a visit (or return) to Melbourne if you get the chance. I enjoy travelling, but I never feel disappointed to come home. There’s a lot to love here and I’m privileged to live in a beautiful part of the city.
My system at the moment:
- iFi Powerstation - Chromecast audio - iFi iPurifier - DSPeaker Anti Mode Dual Core 2.0 - PrimaLuna Prologue 3 preamp - Burson Audio Cable+ (active RCA interconnects) - 2 x Nelson Amp Camp monoblocks (DIY build) - Usher CP-6311 floorstanding speakers - 2 x SVS SB-1000 sealed subwoofers (parties only)
It’s a sweet sounding system, quite versatile, with a very low noise floor. The main weakness is that the Usher/Pass combo becomes a touch strident/constrained on busy passages at high volume.
I’m keen to achieve a more dynamic sound that won’t make me too unpopular with the neighbours - I love to go loud on occasion but I’d like to enjoy my system equally at modest volumes.
I’m interested in trying a DIY speaker build and have always wanted to hear open baffle speakers. Their reputed natural sound and minimal room modes is appealing (as are their modest fabrication requirements).
A bit more research to do I think! Any recommendations welcome.
Cheers Tom

Hi, Tom, and welcome. I don't know much about much, but to me that Chromecast sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm pretty sure you can do a lot better by going the Tinker Board/Volumio route, as a lot of us have if you're playing files, or streaming from Spotify etc.

Mike means power - the term 'mains' is not always used elsewhere.
