Today I have reached the ripe old age of 65 and out of the clutches of that brute Ian Duncan Smith. I can now stick two fingers up at him, as I no longer have to account to him my every action. I'm no scrounger, never have been, but I have had serious physical illnesses for over 25 years.
Of all the governments, during that time, he is the nastiest little bit of .... of them all. I feel sorry for all of those sick and disabled persons who are suffering under his cleansing.
If this is not in the spirit of the forum, I sincerely apologise. I feel so liberated I just had to shout it from the rooftop, if I could get up there.
65 and not out, will try to make the century.
Anthony

Congratulations on your birthday :-)
I thought IDS was Secretary of State for Work and Pensions - aren't you going to draw a State pension?

Well done and happy birthday!
While we don't normally allow politics in TAS, your eloquent shout from the rooftops had me laughing. I've worked for bosses like that (not now)!

Congratulations on your birthday :-) I thought IDS was Secretary of State for Work and Pensions - aren't you going to draw a State pension? Thank you for the Birthday wishes, as for the State pension I've now become a grumbling old so and so who believes that he has the right to everything and IDS can't touch him. is the next step. He can pay for the home and I'll keep all the inmates awake at night with loud music.

Congrats. I've been free of him and his cronies for some time. Its always possible they will try and stop pensions for ex-pats so I'll keep my fingers crossed that I never have to think about them again. 65 is young. I hope you have enough music to keep you occupied for the next 35 years

Congratulations on your birthday :-) I thought IDS was Secretary of State for Work and Pensions - aren't you going to draw a State pension? Pensions are payable upon reaching 65 , you do not have to jump through hoops or convince a private company, interested only in profit , who dont give a toss about you that you are fit for work or entitled to the social security you receive . You don't need to watch in reverence as narcissus turns to a flower either .

OK I think I see where you're coming from now, you're objecting to the provisions of the Welfare Reform Act 2007 which introduced tests for incapacity benefit, and the cack-handed way in which it has been administered by IDS's department. No doubt you'll be pleased by the increases to pensions under the triple lock, the retention of winter fuel allowance and free bus travel etc.. enjoy your retirement

I get my state pittance (sorry, I meant pension) in June 2015.
Not long to go now.
I shall be one of the last to retire at 65.

Have a good one Anthony.
I'm not too far behind you, but daft enough to run my own business so retiring probably not (don't tell the other half)

Thank you to all who gave their best wishes on my birthday. It was a quiet day but none the less enjoyable as you see from my original thread. My real celebration for Retirement cometh tomorrow (Friday) when I shall be having lunch at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Its a beautiful venue and it is reasonable in cost, so the mean old sod that I am will basket in the VFM.
Thanks all,
Anthony.
