I know caps wear out with use over time, but I wonder if you have spares sat idle, do these have a ‘shelf life’ ?

I suspect that electrolytics do as they will dry out over time even without use, but I'm not sure about solid caps.

I suspect not with film caps. For electolytics raised temperature is the killer for life span. At 20 degrees there really isn't much of a problem.

It would seem a good idea to reform old caps by gradually increasing voltage to them when they’ve been unused for a long time.
