Back to the music. I'm trying really hard to get into this but mostly failing. Parts of 7empest are not bad but there is an overall feel to the metal vibe (the thick textures, the relentless singing, the pounding drums) that isn't doing it for me. More is less?
I'll listen some more before scoring.

Oh Tool. Now they are a band I know of and have heard a quite a bit of their output and found them to be ok, but nothing I would call special. But will give this a go and see if it can change my mind. Sorry Tom, this album hasn’t helped changed my opinion. They are ok, some of it works, but I don’t really like it or them that much. |

I'm listening again. The first thing to remark on is how well it's recorded. It sounds superb in 24/96 on Qobuz. Fear Inoculum makes a promising start but then lapses into the language of metal/goth/thrash. After that it's a bit rinse-and-repeat with moments of introspection followed by thrashy bits throughout the album.
I can't go as far as liking it, because I don't think I will play it again, so I'll settle for *shrugs*. Thanks for the AC though, Tom, it's always good to listen to new things.

I'm playing this now - it sounds great to me so far.
A 4/5 at least on this showing. Though I'll give it another spin tomorrow.
