I am interested to know what classical instruments you might have played in your youth!
I started on the violin about age 6 or 7 and absolutely hated it. My first teacher was a bit of a git and whilst I got a more sympathetic teacher, I never really got into it. Managed to scrape through Grade 5 by the skin of my teeth without practiscing enough - the examiner obviously took pity on me!!
At that time, as a chorister it was obligatory for me to learn a second instrument and I chose the trumpet which I absolutely loved and had a great teacher. After I moved to secondary school, one of the heads of music managed to convince my parents that I was rubbish at the trumpet, despite me having done a good Grade 3 and I would be much better off learning the French Horn! Surprise, surprise, there was already a 'gap' in the orchestra waiting for me... What a manipulating little man. Worked up to Grade 5 but never enjoyed it like the trumpet and it was an absolute bugger carrying it in on the bus!
Wish I had learnt the piano. My mother was a superb teacher but is sadly some distance away, otherwise I'd ask her to teach me as we have a nice piano that my son learns on.

I played piano from the age of eight until around fourteen. the rest of the family all had their certificates on the wall and I refused to take exams. I played for pleasure.
From eighteen to date - guitar. Electric bass in mock bands and flamenco at home. I have terribly weak nails and its a good thing that making guitars took over from playing. The araldite and nail hardener did no good at all.
I haven't really sat and played since we have been in France. I keep looking at the guitars and they keep looking back but we haven't got it together as yet. Maybe when I'm older.

If we allowed to move out of the Realms of Classical I always loved the guitar but never really had the talent to back up my passion and desire. Influences probably biggest would Django a Gypsy guitarist with 2 fingers and thumb
One of my favourite Django stories is he was playing at party that the great Segovia where Segovia asked Django where he could get the manuscript of what he was playing and Django replied he was improvising Next up has to be Hendrix. He just made the guitar so cool
Last but not least would be Shawn Lane
I saw Shawn with this band and just was entranced by his playing not easy listening but boy so much going on in his playing. He died a few years after this (skip to around 6.20 mins) I never had the talent to get anywhere on the guitar but loved how trying to learn a instrument opened up my ears to other forms of music

Ah - a fellow brass player! I also gave up the moment I left school, as many others would have done I suspect.
I will definitely learn piano and guitar at some point, and would also like to see if I can still sing - albeit in a slightly different register!
