I heartily endorse the 'woke' decision by Coldplay not to tour their latest magnum opus, in a most worthy effort to reduce their mammoth 'carbon footprint' which no doubt had been keeping them all up at night in an environmental collective masturbatory sweat.
Indeed, hopefully they will reduce their footprint even further by not recording any more turgidly bland putrid dreck to inflict on their environmentally aware public. Just think of the collective energy boost to the national grid that no more Coldplay albums could make ...
In fact, the greatest contribution to the environment they could ever make is to all fuck off to a small Pacific island and never be heard or seen again, with their incessant whining anal retentive shitery.
In their usual humble way they are paving the way - we should have far less touring to entertain the masses. Forget the carbon guzzling O2 arenas and the like - concerts should be reduced to 'salon' productions where only the most woke and worthy of us with proven low carbon footprints will be chosen to meet our heroes, with intimate performances in audiences of no more than fifty of the most enlightened, and most wealthy. Ordinary punters need not apply of course.
After that, if they could reduce their intake of air entirely to complete their environmental mission, I would be most grateful so the planet can start to be reborn from a place of peace and purity.
Thank you sincerely, Coldplay. Now go do one.

Well, I like Coldplay but as I've often said their albums sound like shit. The consistently worst recorded artist I can think of.
X&Y should win an award for the engineer most in need of a serious drubbing followed by a P45.

Am I guessing correctly from your post, Jules that you’re not a fan?

A Head Full of Dreams was back to the overblown crappy production of the others albums unfortunately.

The title of the thread says it all - its not about their music per se, my issue is with their not touring their new album due to environmental concerns.

They've made their millions, they don't need / can't be arsed to tour. That's fine, but don't dress it up in some environmental activism stunt. Would they have done that when they first started to sell out stadiums? I don't think so!

Would they have done that when they first started to sell out stadiums? I don't think so! Agreed. Perhaps they should 'consciously decouple' from touring.

Coldplay leave me er cold. Music is not offensive but I don't choose to play it.
Not touring for environmental reasons I see clearly. I travel very little and choose the bike where I can as I enjoy cycling. That makes me an environmental good boy - by coincidence, luck, whatever I always tried to reduce my travelling to work as it was usually a time stealer. Having my own business I chose where to work and where to live. Commute varied from 5-10 miles for 30 odd years and mostly by bike - because I love cycling Self interest rules and puts me in the environmental good boy area.
I wince just a little when told for example that one set of neighbours is just back from somewhere or other via Gatwick. They are off to Barbados for what sounds a regular trip. Another set are taking their hugely extended family to France for skiing.
Greta has made her position clear and I see Coldplay doing a good thing. More need to do the same

The Beatles were way ahead of their time, weren't they? The Stones on the other hand...

Not touring for environmental reasons doesn't work for me at all.
What are we meant to do, just sit in our living rooms with Spotify?
Live music is one of the great pleasures in life. Should touring orchestras be banned for fear of their carbon footprint? If we sorted out the real abusers of emissions this would be a non-issue.

Indeed, bands touching the surface of it rather than China, India and the USA taking real action is a waste of effort.
There would be no winners in cutting out live music.

Climate change needs publicity. This might prompt some to take action

L-O-L.
For a very short moment I thought you might actually contribute something useful on the subject David, but then I remembered, that's not what you do.
