Hi ,i'm thinking about buying a powered sub my question is can I run the sub via tape outputs on my integrated amp or will I have to hook up via the speaker connections

No, since the tape outputs are constant you will have no control over the sub's volume.
You can use either the preamp out if it's splittable (but also feed it back into the power amp) or use the speaker outputs into the high level sub inputs.

Technically, you can use the tape output, if you don't mind using the volume control on the sub every time you change volume on the amp. Your only other option on the Icon seems to be using the speaker connections. Received wisdom is that you take your amp's speaker output to the sub, and from the sub to your main speakers. Or you could flog the Icon, buy an amp with a pre-out, and solve all of your problems.

Hi Slinger thanks for your advice, I would prefer to run separate cables to my main speakers and to the sub high input is that ok I think it would sound better that way but what do you think mate ?

All I could give you is guesswork I'm afraid. I run a sub, but my Primare amp has a pre-out.

I think you will be okay with it Tim as long as you do not mind having to also alter volume level on the sub It is not the usual way you go about it, but it will work

Just run separate cables from amp to speakers and from amp to sub. It'll work properly then, the volume then always matches the main speakers. Integration is usually better, too, as you account for the amp's sound quality.
That's how I have my AV system set up.
