Hello,
First af all, I want to thank the administrator for accepting me in this forum. Let me introduce myself. I am Portuguese, living in France, almost 58 years old.
I began my journey in hifi about 25 years ago and I am in the diy experience since 5 years ou 6.
Before my diy trip, I had a lot of hifi stuff, like all the olive naims, many Audio Note, (not the Ongaku), all the 47Labs, and before that, many Rotel, Musical Fidelity, Epos, etc. I have an hifi nostalgia from the end of the last century, those times when hifi was so exciting and appealing.
After many many experiences with parts, boards, amps, dacs, speakers, in the diy domain, I decided to make things that I am going to keep and not to sell or storage in a drawer. So I just sold my Soekris dam1921 with all the fancy psu because I am in the process of modding a Caiman SEG, my fourth Beresford dac. I discover that it has a huge potential.
I am finishing to tweak in a Bushmaster MKII, for a friend, and I learned a lot with it.
My preamp is a Nelson Pass Korg tube and my amp is an USSA2 from FAB. Speakers are Jordan drivers, (new EIKONA coming soon), in a VTL transmission line. All my cables are made with copper foil, the best cables I ever heard , and boy, I heard so many. I recently made my fourth version and it is AMAZING. I've been following the threats about the Caiman mods. This is the first reason I am here, to talk about these mods, to share my experience and learn. As a diiyer I am the level 3.5, in a classement from 1 to 5. I can make some complicated tweaks, I know the sound of almost parts, when they are implemented in the right place, I can make some amplifier from scratch, but I don't know yet to design my circuits... YET! Well, I can design a good gainclone, because it is already designed...hu hum...
My written english is not the best, sometimes I make some mistakes, sorry about that, I keep improving. You can point these faults to me, I will thank you!
That's all for now, I'm happy to join this forum.

Welcome to TAS! You've had some great equipment, especially the quirky 47Labs components (I watched the CD player tracking a disc once at it was a fascinating experience). The Beresford DACs always shoot above their price point and I have modded several models over the years.
Enjoy, and do start a blog.

You don't know me, but I've been seeing your posts about the Beresford dacs since a long time ago. i've done a lot of gainclones, inspired by 47Labs, but only one, (very expensive, even being a diy product) is at the same level. Almost all of those gainclones one can see everywhere, even the best ones, don't come close, point. That's only mu opinion. I've tried all of the good ones. I have no 47Labs gear anymore, only my diy stuff. Well, my USSA2, with very nice tweaks, is better than the Gaincard, so it's ok.
It's a good idea to start a blog, I think that I will finally do it.
Cheers!

Good to see you here chouman - tell us what kind of music you enjoy? Hi Jules68,
I like almost all kinds of music. Rock, but not hard rock, from the 60's, 70's, 80's, etc. Many of the classics, from Cat Stevens to Davis Bowie, and Al Setwart, Fagen, etc. I like Jazz. The classics. I got a litle bit tired of ECM Jazz, I heard it a lot and in the end I return to the classics, soft. Ben Webster, Chet baker... but not everyday. I am not a fan of Diana Krall. "Quelle Hérésie"... For everyday, I like to hear singer, special female, human voices, and before I used to hear them sometimes. Now, If I don't have human voices, something is missing. It goes for jazz, soft rock, Brasilian, etc.
I like Chamber music, also a lot, and also orchestral music, but only sometimes. I like Schumann, Shubert, Beethoven, Chopin... I like Mahler al lot. I like so much Beethoven sonatas.
Mahler 5th symphony, conducted by Karajan, the Visconti's theme, so romantic. I also like electronic music, some of it. As you can see, I need a decent system. And I am allways searching for music I don't know. Any kind. But in general, I rarely appreciate "complicated" music; I mean, I have the tendency and the need for something soft, sweet... when I am not in the morning mood for the Stones, for example.
