What current does the Oehlbach need? It could be drawing too much and hitting the limiter.

What current does the Oehlbach need? It could be drawing too much and hitting the limiter. The Oehlbach PSU is rated at 7.5v @ v2.93A Incidentally, they're back down to €74.00

2.93A is a lot, certainly more current than the average powerbank that hits the 5V limit at 2A.

I do not think it needs that current as I believe the power bank was not drawing enough current with the reclocker working alone.

Yesterday I received an Akasa case and a Tinkerboard S purchased from e-bay. The Tinkerboard vendor had said that he had messed-up the eMMC but otherwise it booted from an SD card, which is all I need and reset the jumpers so it boots first from the SD-Card.
I mounted it the Akasa case, inserted an SD-Card with a Tinkerboard Volumio image on it, connected it to a power supply and nothing. No red LED, nothing. I have tried a number of powerbanks, power supplies etc. including downconverting from my 12V LiFePO4 battery which should give up to 5A. From what I have read, although ASUS recommend a PSU above 2A and up to 3A, the Tinkerboard itself only draws 1A, the rest if for USB devices.
The vendor says it was working before he sent it. Even if the power supply is too weak, I would have expected at least a flash of the LED, or do I really need to make sure I have a 3A supply just to get it to boot? Before I send it back, I'd appreciate any experiences or suggestions.

My Tinker S wouldn't boot up with my old 2A Powerbank but no issues at all with 3A rated, which took me ages to find one capable ...

Did the LED come on at all with those it would not boot with?

I had to have my Coherent QP-1 PSU uprated for the Asus. It needs 2.5A minimum, 3A for headroom to boot up. Once running, it settles down to about 0.7A.

Did the LED come on at all with those it would not boot with? I don't think it did OK, thank you. I will persevere and try to get hold of a decent 5V/3A PSU. I will need one anyway if I eventually need to buy a new Tinkerboard S.

This Powerbank has been superb for me, or just get a LPSU if you prefer. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073FJ9X2J/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_i_D5yVEb78WRTKVEasy returns with Amazon if it doesn't work out.

I'm using exactly the same Power Bank with my ATB and it works perfectly for me also.

Hi John, This powerbank outputs 9V at 3A. The Oehlbach voltage range is 6-8V, so do you think 9V is OK? I guess there might be some voltage drop in the cable anyway. If so, I might get one to try to see if will power the Tinkerboard as well (it says up to 3.4A at 5V).

The problem is you cannot power both reclocker and Tinker at same time from that unit - it only has one output (USB-C) that will do any more than 2.4v
