Thanks very much gents. The Yggdrasil will have an excellent USB stage when it comes with the Unison system which will replace the current and already very good Gen 5 USB so that means I should target the Oehlbach. I am frequently in Australia and just down the road from a well respected DAC and power linear supply designer Giessler Audio. So I could easily access one of his well regarded LPS. MartinT you mention not to do jitter reduction initially; is this purely for cost considerations? Is the grounding box a superior approach vs things like the Jitterbug? Not at all familiar with this grounding kit so appreciate the advice. I will ensure that the USB cable I purchase is certified to meet the technical standards as per Blue Jeans type. Edit: Never mind MartinT I just read the thread on the BR kit and understand it's effect now and why it can be a delayed purchase.

Yes, just for cost. If you can go to it, then use a grounding box. I use a Black Ravioli eflos but there are lots of options, depending on whether you want to treat the rest of the system, too. Otherwise, ifi or Audioquest USB jitter reducers will do fine.

I'm curious, as I use ROON and will likely use Ropiee not Volumio, is there any advantage to use the Tinkerboard S vs the Pi 4? The weakness of the USB of the previous series of RPi has been resolved with the RPi 4 which has a dedicated USB now. With the far bigger RPi ecosystem does it have an advantage? I intend to use this the Tinkerboard S or Rpi4 SBC as a Roon endpoint to my DAC.

I think we had 1 member using a Rpi 4 and got a good result. I then have seen other reports that it is not good for audio Let us know what you go for and how you get on.

With the RPi4, as recall it was only for a certain kind of use that was deemed inferior to the 3, that was either when using a hat board, or when using the USB output, but I can't remember which it was! Another thing to think about: Allo now have a USB Bridge Signature ( link) - looks pretty good!

Yes the USBridge Signature does indeed look very interesting especially if paired with a Shanti LPS. Guess it's still early days yet for the jury to decide on the RPi4. I'm wondering if the use of the reclocker and anti jitter devices would give a high quality USB signal with the RPi4. Guess I'll have to be patient until more experienced users have had a go and report.

One of the reasons I went with the Asus is that it's used in the Volumio Primo with very good results.
If you need full compatibility, go with the RPi4 as it will take most of the add-on hardware out there.
If you're looking for excellent USB output quality, go for the Asus Tinker Board S.

I just went back to remind myself... The point that RPi4 was less good for audio was pressed by Hans Beekhuyzen in this video ( link). Notably, he's only looking at performance in conjunction with a hat board - no comment on the USB output. In theory at least it should be better than the USB output on the RPi3, since the ethernet and USB no longer share the same bus. Han's also has a very favourable review of the USBridge Signature ( link).

I had the Allo Signature and whilst good I do think the Tinkerboard with what we suggested is a lot better I suppose you could do similar to USB Bridge signature if you want to push it to the max

I thought good to compare grounding on the Tinkerboard I have tried both active and passive grounding to the Tinkerboard both work Active Devices Includes devices like the jitterbug and IFi silencer Pros Cost effective Adding more seems to help Cons Not everyone hears the benefits Grounding boxes Pros Seem to work better cleaning up the sound Cons Expensive In my system I have found not good to mix passive and active grounding

A suggestion Martin use a slightly larger box, that way we can use those products we discussed last week concerning eradicating those unwanted spurious readings. Just a thought What would they be then?

Tony was measuring noise on the ground plane of the streamer and verifying that a good grounding box does actually reduce locally generated and received noise. His idea was to build it (and other noise reducing components) into one box with the streamer and DAC.
To add to John's post, the Black Ravioli Eflos USB grounding box makes a substantial improvement to the sound of my Asus streamer.

I don't want to count my chickens, but I've just had a message from Oehlbach to say they're sending me a new reclocker at last. I might, eventually, have a complete system to put through its paces. I had a read of this post earlier, from start to finish. It's been an interesting, if a tad convoluted in places, journey, which may finally be over for me when my replacement from Oehlbach arrives.

Looking forward to your impressions of the Oehlbach, Paul. I'm well aware that my Mutec is a bit Rolls Royce as reclockers go, so the Oehlbach may win a general recommendation as an inexpensive reclocker that does the job well.

Apart from the fact that the only similarity between your system and mine is the ATB and one AQ Carbon USB lead it should be an easy comparison to make.

I'm surprised it took them so long to send you out a replacement Paul!

I'm surprised it took them so long to send you out a replacement Paul! Part of the delay was my fault, Jules, as I didn't want to post it over the Christmas period. When it did eventually get there I am assuming that they forgot all about it until I gave them a prod.

I wonder why the Germans have the market cornered in reclockers?!
