For around 30 A4 and 10 A3 prints a year in 1's
Spend on a printer or send a file to a print shop ?
The current Epson inkjet now refuses to accept the compatible cartridges that used to be fine £90 plus for a proper Epson and how long will they work ?

I print(ed) in colour so rarely I'd turn the printer on to find that the cartridges had dried up. I've since bought a Samsung wi-fi monochrome laser for general printing, and now if I ever need to print in colour again, I'll wait until there's a decent amount to print and put fresh cartridges into my Epson, which currently stands clean, and sans ink. I may even investigate colour laser printers at some time should it become financially worthwhile.

You can pick up, on eBay, a Xerox Phaser 6510DNI colour laser (1200x2400 dpi) for between £150 and £200, and a full set of toners would put another fifty quid or so on top of that. I'm not recommending it, I know nothing about it, I simply plucked it from this article as an example.

you can get some bargains on colour laser if you shop around as Slinger suggests. I managed earlier this year to get a Brother Colour Laser for near enough half price - it was much less than the cost of replacing the ink cartridges on my old Canon. Print quality is good too.

40 copies a year? Chat up a local print shop. If that's all you need then I'm pretty sure outsourcing would make more sense.

If you want small volume excellent quality, the Canon photo printers are hard to beat, and they don't go dry as readily as the Epsons.
The Xerox Phasers are good fast printers, print quality is not as good as inkjet and they cost a lot of money to repair when (not if) they go wrong. We have one at work, great workhorse but not very reliable.
