Music is good, isn't it?!! I like to have music around me as often as possible and I quite enjoy messing about with the bits that I play it with.
My first system was an SP25, Sharp tape deck, Sony amp and some half remembered Wharfedales. The Garrard made way for the first in a long succession of Acoustic Research turntables, a brand which I have always had a deep connection with. Since that Garrard, I've always owned a record player and I spent my late teens and early twenties hoovering up lots of the records that were available for very good prices due to the 'death of vinyl'!
My main system doesn't change very often - I've found a combination of gear that I derive immense pleasure from, so it's very stable. There hasn't been a main component change for a long time now. I augment this with a kind of parallel semi-vintage system which allows me to get another view of things when the feeling takes me. I also have a bit of a thing for old analogue receivers and tuners but the collection has been virtually broken up now, except for one or two hangers on.
Musical taste is mainly rock of a certain age but I also love blues (old and new), jazz and all sorts of other bits and bobs.

Back in the late 1980s I used to go with a mate to the Bass Clef in The Angel, London. We heard lots and lots of great live jazz there, almost all of which I have forgotten. I only bought one album of an act I saw, by the Clark Tracey Quintet, which I still have. He was a superb drummer.

I went to a lot of jazz gigs during that period too Martin. There used to be an excellent jazz festival in Brighton every summer. I'm not sure if they still have it. That was where I saw Tommy Chase a few times, another brilliant drummer.

I love them both for different reasons John. The G99 has that great drive and vitality, helped in no small way by the snap and urgency of that lovely old Decca, while the Gyro coupled with the Zeta & Koetsu has great bass (as good as any Orbe I've heard with, say a Rega arm) and not forgetting that astonishing soundstage that you get with this TT. What will be fascinating is the excercise I am about to embark on, where I'll be mounting a newly acquired Zeta onto the G99 (once I've sorted a plinth). As I have a spare Koetsu Black, the potential of both decks should be plain to see.

not forgetting that astonishing soundstage that you get with this TT. That is the Michell's strength. I should imagine that combined with the Zeta's highly structural sound should be a great match.

Perhaps I'm just a bit thick, and slow on the uptake but there are some unfamiliar usernames here. Is there a grand wazoo lurking somewhere?
